My Acer Aspire L320 will not recognize cds or dvds. it was working fine until yesterday. it has a slot that grabs the cd from you and then you normally see the cd loading on the screen. now it still grabs but then nothing happens after that. i have had the computer for 2 years, so the warranty is finished,. what should i do?

This is a common problem I have seen over the years it appears that the Laser for the CD, burns out, or the detector for the CD side of things fails..either way it usually results in DVD working 100% BUT the CD side if things is no good... Unfortuanatly it means ya gonna have to get another unit :(

you can set the partitions in f-disk on the start up disk of windows 98, reset partitions to 32, format c: drive, take out disk and put in windows 98 cd. and restart computer. your done. windows 98 cd will install. your up and running. please give me a fixya rateing. Thanks farren

have you try 2 run audio cd on it? pls try to load audio cd on it and see if it reads.

Sorry- I have to disagree, One screw at the back releases the lid. Inside, the dvd/hdd sub-chassis has one screw holding it to a brass post on the mobo. Undo that, then lift the chassis slightly with it's plastic strap handle, so you can detach the two connectors from the SATA drive, and the ribbon cable to the DVD (careful you don't bust the latch).

Then the whole lump simply lifts out- and you can see the 2 memory cards. The one I've just looked at appears to have 2 x 512mb simms- so you could replace these with 2 x 1024mb DDR2 SDRAM simms, to give 2GB of ram, which is what Acer say is maximum.

Try taking the battery out and booting it on AC power only, if it boots up turn it back off and reinsert the battery, turn the computer on, if it boots up all good, if not please post back.
