Depends of power supply or motherboard. Some have 20+4 pins other only 20 - If your motherboard accept only 20, disconnect the extra 4. If you need a motherboard manual or chart, take a look of what is your motherboard brand and model and go to the manufacturer website to get that info.

My hp pavilion 734n wont power up

Open the case and ground yourself then:

1. Make sure all your expansion cards are seated well.
2. Make sure all your power plugs are ALL seated and seated well.
3. Make sure your RAM is seated well.
4. Make sure your front panel plugs are seated well and in the correct
spots.
(Basically make sure something above didn't come loose.)

5. Test the power supply or get it tested at a computer shop if none of
the above fixes it. Just because the green light comes on doesn't
mean it's not dead or dying.

6. Replace the CMOS Battery. (This is rare to stop a boot but it does
happen)

7. If none of the above reveals a solution then your motherboard is dead.

Good Luck!

What do i do when my computer wont turn on at all and the screen says "NO SIGNAL"

Your CPU may not be getting power. You need to start there. verify the plug is plugged in to a known working recepticle - ie plug a lamp in or your monitor for that matter - exact same plug. Once sure, then verify your power supply switch has not been switched by accident. get a light and look physically at the back where the fan is. The switch is obvious - with a 0 or a 1 - the 1 needs to be pressed in. If the CPU still wont turn on, then the power supply is likely bad - especially if no beeps. If this is the case, you need to replace the power supply. I would take your cpu in to get checked as you may have blown your cpu completely and you dont want to buy anything for a dead motherboard.

My hp pavilion a305w would start up but no lights changed power pack but now i dont know what wires go where since i didnt write down where they went can u help me?

Power supply plug goes in the plug on the motherboard, that is the big plug. There wil be one 4 pin plug that goes to the hard drive and one to the DVD drive. There will be some extra plugs for future hardware installs

Have you matched the plug for your mobo and ensured the CPU power supply is plugged in. Replug in the ram and vid card as they can work loose when pressing in the power supply plug.

No, it indicates a bad power supply.

1) ALL the lights use less than 1 Watt
2) EACH fan uses 2 to 3 Watts

3) A typical processor uses 55 to 125 WATTS.

The base model of the HP Pavilion a1620n Desktop PC, comes with an Intel Pentium D 925
(Operates at a maximum of 3.0GHz)

The Intel Pentium D 925 uses 95 Watts,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Pentium_D_microprocessors#.22Presler.22_.28dual_core.2C_65_nm.29

In most cases the inside of the computer is dirty, as well as the inside of the Power Supply, and it's fan.

Heat = Wasted Energy
When the Heatsinks inside a power supply, and it's Fan, (To include the fan blades, fan center hub, and surrounding fan cage), become clogged with gunk, the cooling capacity of the power supply drops tremendously.

Since Heat = Wasted Energy the power supply tries to keep up with the power load demands.
Eventually components inside the power supply fail.

(Usually the Electrolytic Capacitors are the first to go)

The power supply inside a Pavilion a1620n is a common SMPS. Switched Mode Power Supply.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Switched_mode_power_supply

The style is the common ATX, that is used in over 90 percent of desktop computers. (ATX 12V)

The Wattage is 300 Watts.

Should you like help in finding a replacement power supply that is affordable, and reliable, just state so in an additional comment.

I do advise staying away from the cheap generic models, as they can fail in 6 days to 6 months. ($20 to $25 range)

Hp Pavilion 763n won't startup light on fan on cpu not running

The most common issue is a portion of the power supply has gone bad (power supplies provide +5, +12, -5, and -12 vdc). Otherwise, the motherboard may need replacing. Try finding a spare power supply from a friend and hook it up to see if everything runs fine before purchasing one (about $40-50). If the power supply doesn't fix it, it could be the CPU (although I believe the CPU fan would still run) or any portion of the motherboard.

Not turning on

Try a different power supply first to see if thats the problem, then if you still get the same symptoms, then its the motherboard thats the culprit.

Power supply would run you between $20-$30 and if its the motherboard then it will between $100-$200 range.

Not a clearcut answer unless you are experienced at bench testing. I will say that nine times out of ten it is the motherboard and not the cpu. If you had another system that would accepts your cpu, you could install that and check but you absolutely should not try this if you are not experienced and know how to do this properly. You also should check the motherboard for burnt areas as well.

There is a slight chance it is the power supply. A bad power supply can sometimes give enough power for the fan and lights but still be bad.
