Question about Audiovox Televison & Video

Plastic spindle that holds DVR is broken. I would like to find a replacement part to change the broken piece. The broken piece appears to be pressed on as it came off easily enough so replacement should not be difficult.

Replace fan

Replacing a broken fan in a Kirby is not an easy job. You have to take off the handle, the top cover, the front piece covering the fan and then stick a wrench down onto the motor shaft to hold the shaft tight while you stick an awl or small screwdriver into the hole on the spindle sticking out the front of the vacuum. Turn the spindle to remove it so you can remove the fan. Install the new fan and reassemble the vacuum.

Check to make sure the Spindle that the plastic piece fits on is turning when the oven is on.
If the spindle turns, your problem is either the plastic wheel adapter is worn or not making proper contact with the spindle. You can replace th e adapter by going to Cuisinart.com.
If the Spindle is not turning, you can go to Cuisinart.com and find the nearest repair facility.

The latch that opens the Trunk (Hatchback - as it is a minivan) is broken. I cannot open the back...

If you still have the broken piece, you can try to use that to try to open the back. Otherwise, you have to open it from the inside.
I changes mine in 2007 so if memory serves me, I had to remove the back panel and pull on the cable to open the door.

Now to see and pull on the cable, and replace the latch, you have to take off the inside liner/panel to get to the latch to replace it. This took about 2 careful hours to replace.

The trick is to get the two side pieces off.
These two plastic pieces are next to the window on the left and right sides. Each piece is about 3 inches wide and 18 inches long. Using a strong grip, or a pry bar or large screwdriver, take off both pieces. There are three clip areas that holds each piece in.

If you are using a tool, be careful to protect the area by wrapping a towel on the screwdriver/tool.

After that the bottom liner piece pulls away and you can see the latch.
There are two screws/bolts that holds the latch.

The two pieces snaps back in pretty easily.

You probably broke the plastic piece shaped like a J.
You can try to glue the pieces back, but note that the piece broke due to age. I changed the whole assembly - good for another 7 yrs. I could not find just the plastic piece.

I sucked up a piece of plastic. Removed plastic.

This style machine picks up the dirt/debris with the roller, sends it through a fan and into the bag/cup. This is a very common problem since a plastic fan turning at 2000 rpm meeting anything hard is going to cause damage. (Loose Change, toys, anything small) This fan creates your suction and when it is damaged it creates none, it also is the "noisy" part of any vacuum and becomes extremely noisy when damaged.

To Replace this part:
  1. Remove hood (4 screws underneath)
  2. Remove handle assembly ( one bolt through handle and slide off)
  3. remove the belt
  4. Remove the 2 brackets on each side of the motor that hold it in place. (4 screws)
  5. Lift motor off base assy.
  6. Remove rubber cuff around top of motor assy.
  7. Remove the 6 screws on large size of motor assy. and remove cap.
  8. Turn fan (or whats left of it) off of spindle by holding belt drive spindle on oppisite side of the motor.
  9. Replace fan and reassemble.
You can also take this to most any Hoover authorized service center, they would have the parts in stock and could probably do it for less than 50 dollars. Check their dealer locator for a local center.

Best of Luck!

How to fix a stanley power-lock 25 ft measuring tape

Take the four corner screws out and the last center (short screw out). Split the shells in two pieces. Seperate the yellow or measureing tape from the black spindle tape. The spindle tape holds or attaches the measurement tap to the spindle. I have only seen a plastic spindle and this tutorial only applies to the plastic one. Take the spindle out and set the half casings on their backs, so you can see the cavity of the shells. The black spindle tape will be preformed to only wrap one way. Go ahead and attach the yello measuring tape to the black spindle tape. Pay close attention which side of the yellow tape is facing up or in our intended direction which is towards the center of the spindle. This way when you pull the tape out it is facing up for the person can see the measure marks. Wrap the tape tightly. If the tabs are broke and there's no way to secure the Yellow to the black, use two strips of Duct Tape and adhere the sections together. Do not use too much tape, since the clearance inside the spindle is tight. Once you wrap the tape inside, put a temporary piece of tape to secure the yellow and keep it from unraveling again. Next take a 1" wood screw and a battery powered drill and insert the screw into the center of the plastic spindle. Slowly tap the screw until it catches, do not drill the screw all the way in, only enough to catch in the plastic. Once the screw is partly into the plastic place the spindle into one of the half shells. The reason for the drill and screw is to return the tension back to the internal spring. Whichever side you placed the screw into you need to be sure to apply a clockwise turn. Keep the hex head of the drill so to not release the tension. At the same time place the spindle in the half shell and lock its square center piece into the shell. Now you can remove the screw from the center, then remove the tape holding the yellow meauring tape down, Still holding the measuring tape so it wont unravel, begin placing the last half shell on. Obviously you need to line everything up so the tape slides freely through its opening. Align the tape slide stop, which rests between the two shell halves. Replace the screws and remember the short one goes in the middle and holds down the belt clip.

Belt keeps snapping

Check your brush. It is likely that the brush is broken and will not spin. Hold the brush by the end caps and spin the brush and if it will not spin freely that is your issue.

Put tape in new video cassette

TAKING A GOOD QUALITY TAPE FROM ONE CASETTE AND MOVE TO ANOTHER WITHOUT HARMING THE TAPE QUALITY: TAKE A NEW, GOOD CASETTE AND UNSCREW THE 5 SCREWS HOLDING THE TWO PARTS OF THE CASETTE TOGETHER. AT THIS POINT DO NOT OPEN THE CASETTE. TURN THE CASETTE UPSIDE DOWN (SO THAT THE SIDE WHERE THE SCREWS CAME OUT IS NOW SITTING DOWNWARDS ON A FLAT SURFACE) IF YOU OPEN THE CASETTE BEFORE TURNING IT UPSIDE DOWN, ALL KINDS OF SMALL PIECES WILL FALL OUT AND YOU WILL NOT KNOW WHERE THEY CAME FROM. NOW GENTLY SEPARATE THE TWO PARTS OF THE CASETTE AND PAY ATTENTION TO EXACTLY WHERE THE TAPE RUNS THROUGH VARIOUS SPINDLES, ETC. MAKE A SKETCH IF THIS WILL HELP YOU. GENTLY LIFT OUT THE TAPE AND REPLACE IT WITH THE TAPE THAT WAS IN THE BROKEN CASETTE. THIS IS ASSUMING THAT THE ONLY DAMAGE WAS TO THE CASETTE ITSELF AND NOT THE TAPE. REPLACE THE TOP PART OF THE CASETTE (WITH THE SCREW HOLDS STILL FACING DOWNWARDS). HOLDING THE TWO PIECES OF THE CASETTE TIGHTLY TOGETHER, TURN IT OVER AND REPLACE THE SCREWS. TRY NOT TO HANDLE THE TAPE ITSELF. I HAVE USED RIGHT FITTING SURGEON'S GLOVES WHILE DOING THIS, BUT REALLY DON'T KNOW IF THEY HELP, BUT THEY DO KEEP THE NATURAL OILS OF THE FINGERS OFF THE TAPE.
