As simple as this problem probably is, start with the simple stuff. Check the handle chain brake. Is it in the lock position? Then take the chain clutch cover off and check the contact area of the chain and clutch. Is it plugged with debris? If so clean it and check the chain tension.

Make sure the chain-brake is not on.
Take off the bar & chain & clean it. While they are off, check the sprocket is free to turn.
Check the bar is not pinched on the chain.

How to check for proper chain tension husqvana 450e

You should be able to move the chain with your hands, but not too easily. Please wear gloves when doing this. Also, if you pull the chain away from the bar at the middle of the bar, there should be no more than 1/8" between the bar and chain.

Hope this helps. If it does, I'd appreciate a 4 thumbs up. Thanks,

Release the chain tension adjuster and push the bar inward to make sure it moves. This is an auto-set tension adjustment and should set itself so that the chain can be be moved by hand. The chain oil on the bar may have gelled enough to prevent chain movement. A spray of WD-40 around the chain perrimeter would probably loosen the chain as well. Hope this helps!

While cutting the chainsaw bogs down and stops

Check the air filter and the muffler if either are plugged up it will not run smooth. Carb hi and low screws are very sensitive so if you change them, only move them a little at a time.

Did anyone explain how a chain brake works?
Pull the forward most handle as far aft as possible. It should click if it was tripped. Wearing gloves can you easily rotate the chain?
Remove the clutch cover. If it seems stuck the chain brake is tripped do not force it off, reset the brake. Inspect all interior parts for small twigs or pieces of tree that have jammed the brake or clutch. Anything beyond this please see the dealer that sold it to you. HTH

How do you loosen the chain on a chainsaw husqvarna 136?

Hi there. On the outer bar cover near the motor you will find 2 nuts. Slightly loosen those two nuts. Then check around the these nuts or near where the bar attaches to the powerrhead at the front of the saw. You should find an adjustment screw of some sort, which will be the chain tensioning screw (which moves the bar forward/back depending on which way it is turned). This has the effect of either tightening or loosening the chain, so turn this screw noting whether the chain is tightening or becoming loose.

You must slightly undo those 2 main nuts on the side of the chain/bar cover first or the bar will not move and the chain cannot be loosened.

Husqvarna 345 chainsaw chain doesn't move freely and heats up

has the chain ever came off the saw?and i'm going to assume that it is the correct chain for the saw...reason i ask about the chain comming off the saw is that when it does the driver have a tendency to become nicked and will heat up the clutch because the saw is trying to drive the chain links through the chain slot.also you need to look at the drive sprocket to see if there is any wear on the teeth....also over tighting the chain will cause the clutch to heat up.
