The unit just testing it out before hooking everything up, does not turn on. The flashing red security light is there so it is getting power, but the unit fails to turn on. What might be the cause of this? First thought I came to was a bad wiring harness so I connected a different harness into it for a Pioneer and tapped it into the factory harness. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

it sound like the memory wire is hook up wrong, check the yellow wire first then the red wire if still the same problem, connect the red and the yellow wire together to see if it come on it should come on you might have to run a hot wire from the battery in the dash then hook the yellow wire to it so your memory stays on
The yellow wire is constant 12 volts and is used to maintain radio station presets, clock, and tone settings when the car is turned off. To use the stereo, you need the red wire hooked up to switched power (so that it's got power when the key is turned, and the power shuts down when you shut off the car). That's the one that'll give you "power" to the head unit.
Yo, I've got the perfect solution to your problem. Pull out the head unit from your dash. Then, remove the wiring harness carefully from the unit. Now, push in the yellow power wire (even jiggle it a little) making sure it's tightly snug the small port of the wiring harness. Then, plug the harness back into the unit and try turning it on. I've found that the wires come lose easily on this unit. hit me back up at Darkintel74@aol.com.
If you have not already tried resetting unit. Bottom left of unit you should see a small round reset button. Press this small Reset button with a Pen or other pointy object. If this does not work refer to trouble shooting section of Owners manual to see if any of that info may help. http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/CQVD6503U-MULTI.PDF
