I have tried on a couple different computers, and none of them even recognise the microphone, like it isnt even there. I have tried to fix it with the settings but nothing works. Since I got it a year ago it has been like this, I think the headset is just useless and that creative made a mistake with it...

I bought a HS-400 few days ago and just made the mic work in XP (my audio driver is SigmaTel, don't know if this way works for others). 1. Plug the headphone to the rear panels. 2. Open SigmaTel Audio Control Panel, go to Jack Setup tab, click on the red Rear Panel and select Device Connected: Mic. 3. Go to Control Panel and open Sound and Audio Devices, then go to Voice tab and choose Test Hardware. 4. Click on Volume under Recording, select Rear Mic in the popup window and close it. It should be working now.

Is the creative hs-400 compatible with regular mp3 players?

It should be compatible with any MP3 players.
The headset has a universal headphone jack that is compatible with most (if not all) devices.

Make sure you are using good batteries AND if intended to use Alkaline batteries, do NOT try to use rechargeables... they have a lower voltage output.

My mic isnt working but i can hear out of my headset

If you are running Vista, make sure that you set your mic as the default. Then check on vent settings and make sure that your output setting are set for your head set. You can then test your headset inside of the settings tab.

Doubleclick the little speaker icon in the taskbar and adjust sound, mic, line, gain, etc properties to suit. You may have to hit the Adv button to do more.

Buzzing

I would think that your mic part is shot or you need to adjust the volume of your mic. Go to Start---->Control Panel---->Sounds And Devices---->Volume----->Advanced now adjust your input mic levels a little lower.

Microphone volume

I'm not 100% sure it's the microphone in your case, since I am experiencing the same problem right now with another microphone. I borrowed a working headset from my friend and it is not working either. My volume is up like yours and I can barely hear myself. I am updating the drivers soon and I'll let you know if that fixes it.
