The new 20lb LPG cylinders now have what called an OPD Valve. Reconnect to a 20lb cylinder and turn the tank valve on very very slowly, This will help prevent the OPD Valve from locking up the heater's regulator. Your 1lb cylinder is not required to have this OPD Valve.
By the way, this happens quite frequently with LP Gas Portable Grills.
There may be dust building up in the ODS safety pilot assembly. The simplest way toresolve this is to flish the pilot with rust buster. Why rustbuster? It has a telescoping tube that makes it easy to direct the squirt into the pilot. Let it dry then retry. You will be amazed.
turn off propan and heater. Undo the connector hose. then rehook hosewith heater valve off, Turn on propane valve real slow. Propane bottle valves have a safety that senses rapid escape, like in a wide open dump. This should reset it.Then light the pilot . should work.
I would say that the lines still need to be perged. This some times takes a few times to get it going . If it has set for a long time or have run low on gas.it only takes a little air pocket to stop the works. Ask the man back. $125.00 is a lot of doe for no go. DFD
I'm having the exact same issue as of Nov 2010 with my Charmglow Patio Heater. Only used it a few times and once I get the pilot light lite, It will not migrate over to the burn section of the themostat. Any suggestions?
Not enough information to solve the problem correctly but I'll take a guess at it......
This heater requires a 100lb propane tank (approx. 25gal) with 1/2" or larger piping to deliver the correct volume of gas to the heater. If you are using a smaller tank (like a 10gal) or the piping is not the correct size you will not get enough gas to the heater to light the pilot. Also you should have a regulator set at 11" to 14" of water column installed between the tank and the heater. If the tank is connected directly to the heater you may have damaged the internal regulator in the heater.
Well, I just went out this morning and worked on the heater after it would not light last night. Turns out that a spider or moth set up camp in the pilot light intake housing and plugged up the two small mixer holes that pull in air for the pilot light. This would explain the 'yellow-flame'. I took a punch awl and some compressed air and cleaned out the hole, then re-installed the cover and knob. Lastly, I turned and depressed the knob and the pilot light ignited almost instantly, stayed on when I let the knob up, and the heater turned on normally after that. Good luck, I hope this helps.
There must be a blockage in the hose and regulator or your large tank may be checking and not allowing the unit to stay lit. Remove the large bottle. Let the gas line equalize for about 30 seconds and then reattach the bottle. Very slowly, open the knob on the large tank and I mean very slowly. Did I say open it slowly. The new OPD propane tanks often have a very touchie excess control valve that won't allow enough gas through if opened too rapidly. Now tray and light the heater. If you still experience the same, get a technician involved so they can inspect the gas pressure.
