It will do this when it's not getting a video signal from the computer. Make sure that the signal cable is firmly plugged in at both ends. Also verify that the computer is actually starting up. The monitor may not be getting a signal because the computer isn't sending any.

My monitor goes to sleep all the time, not

trevor_jody, I hope you have valid HP warranty! If not , then you will need to do some reading at this blog: http://www.lesliewong.us/blog/2005/05/02/hp-pavilion-f1703-flat-panel-display-blackout-solution/ The cheapest way to fix is DIY. But you and only you can determine if you are able to do the required work necessary to refurbish the unit. Swap-in a good unit to use while you are researching the common fixes for your 2338h unit. Your unit still works!!! Just not long enough! Your goal is to make it work for 20 million seconds. Try these other web sites also. www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm (site run by "buddymc") and www.badcaps.net , www.lcdparts.net Next thing to do will be to understand the "flashlight test" to determine state of your monitor's "switch-mode-power-supply". Is it in full or partial shutdown mode when screen goes BLACK or BLANK and BLACK? If you can still see Win-desktop after screen goes black, then SMPS is in partial shutdown mode. Blank n black=full shutdown. Do some reading in my and "buddymc" and "budmrtn" fixya profiles by typing our fixya "nicknames" into the "search for solutions or.... " bar at top of fixya screen and then hit enter or click search button. You will also find DIY video clips at YOUTUBE that will also be of some use too!! All that we ask you to do after doing your research is to come back to fixya and tell us if we were of some help and that you have learned something about how your monitor functions and if you have been able to make the decision to DIY or contract out the work needed to restore your unit to like-new condition. Bye for now. 12fixlouie

Hmm... is still not working

Start your computer and tap the F8 key as soon as the computer begins to power-up. Keep tapping until you come to the Safe Mode screen. When the screen alerts you to the fact that you have chosen Safe Mode, click OK.

When you get to the desktop go to the control panel and launch System Properties. Go to Hardware and Device manager. Click the arrow next to the Display Adapter. Point at the adapter, right click and chooser Properties. Click the Driver Tab. Roll back the video driver to previous driver.

If indeed you have installed a new driver that is not compatible with your video card, then rolling it back to the original may very well take care of this problem.

Good luck!

LCD monitor goes blank

It appears that the display resolution set in your display properties is out of the range that the LCD can display.

Try this.

Boot to the ENABLE VGA MODE by pressing F8 to get the Windows Boot Menu. If you can get to the desktop, then go to display properties, and see if you can change the resolution to higher settings and maintain video. (If the video blanks out, then it should revert to the previous setting in 15 seconds)
