Hi,

Your post/description could be indicative of:

  • a dirty lens;
  • lens cradle not moving;
  • spindle not turning.
Corrective action would involve:
  • cleaning with a CD cleaner similar to those used in computer CD ROMs;
  • opening the unit for a look & see, cleaning and reapplication of appropriate lubricant;
  • checking/repairing/replacing the motor.
The latter of course would require a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would

Incidentally, if it were just a glitch, you could try unplugging from the mains for sometime. This would hopefully reset the unit. Alternately, consult your manual for corrective/reset procedures.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

This implies the laser in the dvd can't read your disk, and says "No disk". Try cleaning the laser first, it'll look like an led. Unplug and disassemble then use a cotton bud with isopropol alcohol, or metho. If this doesn't work, the laser may be dead and it'll just be a surround sound unit then!

PCM is what it's receiving from the DVD player. The player has output bitstream settings, too, maybe even speaker configurations and distances. Read its manual.

Yes you can get simulated 5.1 surround sound from your TV as well as radio. Just switch the JVC surround mode to Pro Logic II movies or music In some systems it will display only PLII.
Just connect the TV audio out to the JVC Aux input at the back ( red and white sockets ).

Yes, and no. You can connect the HDMI cable from the DVD player to your television for audio and video, but you will not get true surround sound as designed by dolby or dts.

DVD player and receiver will not play a dvd in surround sound ?

The dvd player is responsible for reading the surround sound track, and sending it to the receiver. First make sure you are playing the surround sound track on the dvd, many have a stereo track too. Next, try another dvd and see if you can play surround sound on that one. If you can't play surround on ANY dvd I would start looking at the audio connection from dvd to receiver. Are you using an optical cable? Red, white, and yellow RCA cables? Optical will transmit any sound over only one cable, RCA cables need one cable for each channel (LF, C, RF, LR, RR, sub.) If your connections are correct, is the receiver set to play a surround sound track? Is it set in 2 channel mode?

No surround sound

if the unit has no digital dvd 5,1 input it will not play 5.1 output, unless the unit is switched into a virtual surround mode(theatre/etc) mode try with a new dvd film with a digital glassfiber cabel if it shows 5.1 on the display of the receiver. if it shows 5.1 digital surround than the end stage of your surround is blown and needs to be replaced

I have the same problem. All of a sudden no sound through my TV connection (but through the DVD connection the sound was still working). I changed the connection from video 1 to video 2 and got the sound back. It is not a real solution, but a practical one :-)
