Hi there,

For directions on refitting the U-bend, you might find it helpful to take a look at our online support guide for this machine:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=972&product=DC17-ANIMAL

The U-bend should simply slide into place, so you can secure it by turning the catch with a coin. However, if the catch has now come off, it may be best if you get in touch with our Helpline for further assistance - they'll also be happy to help with any other queries you may have. You can call free on 1866MYDYSON, or email [email protected].

Kind regards,

Jack

Head bouncing

Hi Michelle,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC17. It might help to check the cleaner head is free of blockages, and that the internal hose is not damaged. You can do this by following the steps shown in our online support guide:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=954&product=DC17-ANIMAL

You might also find the video below useful when checking the cleaner head.

If this doesn't resolve the issue, please give us a call free on 1-866-693-9766, or email us at [email protected] so we can provide further assistance.

Kind regards,

How do i put back together the top of my Dyson DC17 animal upright? its the trigger to empty the drum? It seems I have to line up the rod with the bottom but I cant see what I am doing!

Hi Julie,

With the clear bin closed and placed on a stable surface, you should be able to lower the cyclone pack down into it until it locks into position with an audible 'click'.

If you're unable to do this, or would like someone to talk you through it, please give our Helpline a call free on 1866MYDYSON, or email [email protected].

Kind regards,

Poor Suction

The flexible hose between the beater bar housing and the connection to the dust bin might have come loose or has a hole in it. Check this hose for your low suction problem.

Cannot reinstall valve pipe assembly on Dyson dc17 vacuum

Take off the cyclone canister and flip open the filter cover. (The U-shaped tube at the bottom of the vacuum is probably already off-if not, release the lock with a screwdriver and remove it.) Release the vacuum from the upright positon, so that the head is extended. Align the value pipe assembly so that the clear tabs line up while the small extension off the value pipe faces the front of the vacuum (ie, is near the filter area). Now you have to carefully twist the value pipe clockwise while lining us the small extension with the black groove inside the head piece by moving the head back into the upright positon at the same time. Replace the U-shaped tube.

Dyson DC17 Animal

I have the same problem with my Dyson dc17...there is dog x2 hair collecting in the 'cylinders' just underneath the purple cap on top of the cyclone/canister. And i can see twisted 'braids' of hair coming out of each pea-size hole. I called Dyson's Support number and after they asked a few questions about the round filter (tell them you clean it every month or so), the representative told me that you should not see anything collecting on top of your filter located at the base of the canister (mine was covered with dog hair, etc.). They told me that nothing larger than minute dust particles should be there...which eventually travel into the purple cap. They said the cyclone canister has since been redesigned to correct the faulty rubber seals, etc., and they are going to send me a whole new cyclone/canister within a week or so. so call Dyson directly before you try to get inside "the purple chamber"...I know I could not figure it out!
