NEC Multisync FE700 colors reversed

By Bouncy - usenet poster

I have a NEC MultiSync FE 700 that has the 3 colors reversed in the upper right corner and extending away from the corner in a 4-5 inch radius from that corner.
Red background will be blue in the effected area, blue background will be green, and a green background will be blue. A yellow background will be cyan or magenta (some kind of purple).

A black background shows all black.

But.....there's more............
A white background has a hazy grey drift at the edge of the effected area. Kind like the milky way across the sky. Inside and outside the grey, it is clearly very white.

Is this a repairable problem without me having to spend any money. Otherwise I am going to have to send it to the recycle bin.

The damage is to the shadow mask which is a thin metal sheet with holes in it, this is inside the CRT and aligns the electron beams with the correct coloured phosphor dot on the front of the CRT.

Nope, your CRT is faulty or it is badly magnetised. Try degaussing several times or use an external degaussing wand. If this does not work, the CRT will be faulty and the monitor will be not worth repairing.
