It fires nails ok using it with body straight but not when i after fire up hill.

if the nailer is for 18 guage nail use 18 gauge nail if not 16 guage will jam. if it is not the problem is the profile return asyy may jam in side.

The Dewalt D51844 uses a full round head 20 degree nail. Sometimes the generic brand nails are not made exactly to the stated degree. They do this so their nails will work on a variety of nailers. Best to check the nails angle in relation to the angle of your nailer. Place a strip of nails on the outside of the rail. Align the heads of the nails to a convenient straight edge on the rail then check that the head and shaft of the first nail is aligned with the barrel. If the lower part of the nail projects out further than the head, then the driver will miss the head. If the head of the first nail appears close enough to barrell for the driver to hit it then place a new strip of nails into the mag and slide the pusher foward. Fire one nail, if success, remove the nails from the mag and check if the plastic holding the nails together is projecting in front of the first nail. Sometimes the plastic is not right, too stiff, and will not let the next nail align with the barrell. If the next nail appears ready and slides forward then the driver may not be going all the way up after shot. Check by inserting a metal rod into barrell and push driver up till it stops. If the driver is in the uppermost position, then most likely brand of nails. Use Dewalt nail. Good Luck

Try another brand of nails -- maybe your gun doesn't like those. Also, blow any dirt out of the nail magazine.

Lets assume you have oiled the gun. Before you run out and buy an o-ring kit for this, take the gun apart and look for anything that may be jammed inside the gun. This could be dirt, grit or an unfired nail. The gun is very simple inside so don't be afraid to do this yourself. Undo the 4 hex screws holding on the cap at the back of the gun. Put the nose of the gun in a vise or get a friend to hold the gun for you. Grab hold of the cylinder inside the gun and pull it out. Wiggle it around and pull at the same time, it will be tight but it will come out. Totally disassemble the cylinder. If the seals look good take a very close look at the "Bulkhead". It is made of plastic and is prone to get very small hairline cracks in it and this will leak air. Look inside the cylinder and make sure the walls are smooth and not scored. This is all very easy to do. Don't just buy an o-ring kit assuming it will fix the problem. Look for the simple stuff first, it may save you some time and money. AGAIN IF THE O-RINGS LOOK GOOD TAKE A VERY CLOSE LOOK AT THE BULKHEAD AND LOOK FOR CRACKS, IF AIR IS LEAKING FROM THE NOSE THIS SHOULD BE THE FIRST PLACE TO LOOK AND COSTS ABOUT $7.00 TO REPLACE..........

if air is released when the trigger is pulled then stops when the trigger is released , then the trigger is doing its job. its probably a firing valve issue. four screws will take off the top cap of the gun the firing valve is inside of the cap . first check to see if the gun has enough oil( unless its an oil less gun) if its dry then grease or oil all of the orings, if this dose not work check to see if any of the orings or plastic parts need replacing. pls rate this answer...;tks
