Hard drive beeping noises

Never heard of a Harddrive beeping before, but I'll take your word for it.

The beeps you hear are BIOS Beep Codes.
The computer's way if telling you something is wrong, and an area to look into for it.

The beeps are a pattern, or Code.
For example; 1 Long beep, a pause; then 3 Short beeps.

One Short beep, pause, Short Beep, pause; and repeating over, and over.

So....................in your own words Eric, tell the jury where you were on the night in question?
Do you have any alibi's?

This can be found on the back of the computer, in the white Service Tag.

Tip

Computer beeps

If you try to power on your computer and nothing happens but a bunch of beeps there is something you can do. The beeps actually mean something. To make sure you can hear the beeps check in the bios options. If there is an option for a silent boot you won't hear any beeps. If you hear one beep every time your computer starts then you don't have to worry about this.

If you want to check this setting refer to my other tip on how to enter bios and change boot settings.

If you try to boot your computer and nothing shows up on your monitor do these steps first.
1-Check all your cables in the back of the computer.
2-check your power source and power cord to the monitor
3-try another monitor if possible
4-If on a power bar try to turn off the power bar and reset the breaker

If you try to boot your computer and nothing happens and you hear beeps look at this website. The beeps you hear are actually telling you what is wrong. Look at the website by clocking on the link below and click on the computer beep codes link. If you want to scroll down past the link it will show you bios codes to enter the bios in your computer

When rebooted computer beeps 3 times and will not turn on

Is it a long beep or a short beep? Beep codes are used by the BIOS during the POST to report certain initial system errors.

If you're hearing beep codes after you turn your computer on, it typically means that the system has encountered some kind of problem before it was able to display any kind of error information on the monitor.

Follow the steps below to determine what system problem the beep code is representing.
Difficulty: AverageTime Required: Anywhere from 10 minutes to a few hours depending on the cause of the beep code

Here's How:

  1. Power on the computer or restart it if it's already on.

  2. Listen very carefully to the beep codes that sound when the computer begins to boot.

Restart your computer if you need to hear the beeping again. You're not likely to make whatever problem you have worse by restarting a few times.

  3. Write down, in whatever way makes sense to you, how the beeps sound.

Important: Pay close attention to the number of beeps, if the beeps are long or short and if the beeping repeats or not. There is a big difference between a "beep-beep-beep" beep code and a "beep-beep" beep code.

This is all important information that will help determine what issue the beep codes are representing.

  4. What steps you take to solve a particular beep code will differ depending on the BIOS manufacturer.

Choose the correct beep code troubleshooting guide below based on your motherboard'sBIOS manufacturer:

Computer comes on but will not boot up

There could be number of reasons, usually it could be a hardware failure. first check the monitor if its properly connected. check the fan for the processor it its working. If your hearing beeps surely there is a hardware failure, if its 2 short beeps then there's something wrong with the memory, turn of the computer and check if its properly connected. if the beep is a long one then that's the hardisk turn off the computer if the also properly connected. Another thing if your computer have graphics card try to remove that and connect the monitor to the motheboard's video port which is color blue.

i hope this helps. please rate my solution

My PC wont start up, all it does is beep constantly. I don't have any idea what to do. Please can you help?

Beeping when the computer first starts up indicates a hardware failure. It can be bad memory, bad motherboard or something else is bad.
You can look up the beep codes from your computer manufacturer's website under support or Google It.
If you are not able to replace memory or motherboard on your computer, You will need to have a computer tech look at your computer.

All of a sudden the pc wont work can start the pc and it's running but just getting a beepeing noise roughly every few seconds help please. Rich

The beeping your hearing is a code, Without knowing how many beeps it's hard to tell what is wrong, But usually indicates a Power Supply issue or even a motherboard issue those are extremes it could be that your hard drive is no longer booting, Or the operating system isnt being found, Usually though that beeping is not a good sign.
I would suggest when your computer starts beeping it is time to seek help from the pc repair shop in your area check craigslist usually some adds on there for inexpensive work

WHEN i turn on computer i hear 3 beeps and thats it

Hello davidm08868,

Three beep codes at power on self-test (POST) usually indicate a general hardware failure. If the bios is AMI, the three beeps mean Base 64K RAM failure. If that's the cae then try reseating the memory cards.

Here's a web link that has some information about Bios beep Codes: http://webpages.charter.net/dperr/beepcode.htm
