I experienced the "errr 99" on my 1Ds Mark II. Th shutter was not responding.
Try this : go to menu, do a manual sensor cleaning for about 20 secs. (Do whatever you hv to do to cover the sensor when the mirror flips up). Turn off the camera.
Turn it back on (and hope the problem is solved :-))
It worked on mine.
