i cant connect through the wireless router.....I can connect hardwired, but not through the router

  • handbasket19 Sep 29, 2008

I have the same problem - direct ethernet connection to modem works, but wired connection to router doesn't, nor does wireless. I had the same problem when I first bought it, and it took me 4 hours with linksys customer service to find someone with a more intelligent solution than "reset the router" or "is your adapter card turned on?". Router worked perfectly when I moved temporarily and redid the settings. When I moved back to my old ISP it wouldn't let me connect. Trying to avoid another billion hours with customer service. Windows XP, WRT54G v3.0

Whenever you connect a different device to the cable/DSL modem the modem itself must be reset. Dont even waste a phone call to linksys. Its useless.

If you are using DSL depending on your ISP you may have to enter your account info into the router's PPoE section

Cable users should have the router set to "Obtain IP aadress automatically"

Use the reset button on the back of the router and start from scratch.
Unplug the cable/DSL modem power
Hook up your router WAN/Internet to the Cable/DSL modem Ethernet/LAN jack
Power on the Cable/DSL Modem first, wait about a minute, then power on the router.

Hi Support team, I use Modem Motorola SB100 with Linksys WAP54G, and DLink Wireless G DWA USB Adapter to connect to Linksys WAP from my PCDesktop. Connection from the PC to Linksys is ok but can't...

peter_picasa:

You cannot use a Wireless Access Point (WAP) to connect directly to your IPS's modem. A WAP does not provide the ability to share a single IP address on the internet like a router does.

Either return the WAP for a refund and buy a wireless router or buy an Ethernet wired-only router and plug the WAP into the LAN side of that router. You would then plug the WAN side of the Ethernet wired router into your modem.

Thanks for using FixYa.

How do the cables connect? Which cable goes where?

Step 1:
Connect the broadband modem to the router's WAN or Internet port.
Step 2:
Connect the computer to any available numbered port (1, 2, 3 or 4).
NOTE: In this example, we'll connect the computer to port number 3.

NOTE: It is advisable to connect the computer to one of the Ethernet (1, 2, 3 or 4) ports when setting up the router for the first time. If you have successfully configured the router using a wireless computer, unplug the Ethernet cable which connects the computer to the router for you to have wireless Internet connection. For instructions on how to connect the wireless computer to go online using the Linksys router, click here.

Step 3:
Make sure the power adapter is plugged in to an available power outlet.

Unable to get on Internet. OK when Linksys removed. Reset, turned off, disconnected without any success. Lights seem normal . Changed cables. ít worked OK before our trip. Came back after six weeks...

Make sure that your computer is able to go online through the modem.
If your computer is not able to go online through the modem then you will need to call ISP first.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem
then you need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

My modem is working perfectly on my notebook then i installed my Linksys router on the modem and router to my notebook. I turn on the power of my modem everything is light up then i power on my router,...

Wireless broadcast is usually the first thing to go when a router is failing. How old is your router? Try these steps:
Turn off computer
Remove power from router
Remove power from modem
Wait 2 minutes
Restore power to modem
Wait for modem to boot up and gain all signals
Restore power to router
Wait for router to completely powerup
Watch for wireless indicator light
Boot up computer, verify your wireless network is broadcasting
Connect

If you still can not get the wireless network to access the internet, try connecting your computer with an ethernet cable. If everything connects fine and you can access the web, it might be that your router is going bad and needs replacing.

Try running the ethernet cable from the modem to port #2 on your router. Then run the second cable from port#3 on the router to your computer. This effectively uses the router as a pass-thru and bypasses all its functions. If you are able to access the internet this way, you need to replace the router.

Linksys modem is being a pain in the *** cannot get internet

OK step at a time. Is the modem plugged into the correct place on the router. There should be 4 or 5 slots that are grouped together or appear separated from one particular slot on the router? Sounds to me like you are reaching the router but not getting internet access??? Does your laptop show being on a network with the Linksys? Make sure you have the router wired correctly. Setting Up a Wireless Network

You can still use your existing Linksys router with your cable modem. In fact the router your have is designed to work with DSL/Cable Broadband connections.

1. Make sure to properly connec the devices in your network. Modem will be connected to the Internet port of the router. Then, laptop will be connected to one of the 4 Ethernet ports of the router. For initial setup of your router with modem, you need to hardwire laptop to the router.
2. Press and hold reset at the back of the router for about 15 seconds.
3. After 15 seconds turn off the router and then turn off the modem. Wait for a minute.
4. Power on modem and wait for the lights to be ready.
5. When modem lights are on, turn on router.
6. There should be 4 lights on. Power should be steady green. Internet, WLAN and Ethernet port.
7. Checked if you have Internet connectivity on your laptop while it is wired to the router.
8. If Internet is working, disconnect laptop from wired connection to the router and check available wireless network that laptop can detect.
9. The default wireless network name that the Linksys router broadcasts is "linksys". Connect to it which is an unsecured wireless network.
10. Once you are successfully connected, check Internet.

Hope this helps!

Reset the modem while the router is plugged into it. Do this by disconnecting the power to the modem and then reconnecting.

After configuring the router and if you already have an Internet connection, then connect your second computer to any numbered port of the router (port 1,2,3, or 4) and test the Internet connection.
Configure the wireless settings of the router by following the steps on this link.

Wireless connection

Has any machine ever successfully connected through your router to the internet wired or wireless?

If not the requirements of your ISP must be reviewed to assure the wan/modem side of your router is configured correctly. This will require at least your ISP (phone./cable company) name or preferably a link to his support web site to gather information.

The manufacturer's and model of your wireless router/access point and wireless adapters (computer if the wireless adapter is built-in) will also be required to acquire common copies of the manuals to facilitate the configuration of the devices.

IF you provide the necessary information in a comment to this problem we can continue to step toward the establishment of a wireless connectin to your laptop.
