Question about Televison & Video

3 Answers

I have a 62 inch Panasonic Plasma that I inherited from a friend (it was apparently going to cost $800 to repair). It worked perfectly for a week, but since then it has continually switched itself off (leaving the little standby light flashing). Occassionally you can get it to go again by switching it on & off continuously, but this is becoming harder & harder

Thank you. I have pretty much tried most of these things, but not the sleep mode (I dont have a manual, so I am unsure how to do that at this stage)

The problem is the three capacitors.
After you have changed them ,your TV will work nice again.
You will find them easily, if you unscrew the back cover on the plasma TV.
Sorry to tell you, that this is the common problem with these sets.
It is a bad capacitor in the main power supply..
There are really about three of them that go bad from time to time.
You should find an authorized repair facility to fix it.
Dont give your plasma tv for repair to an unauthorized centre.
Good luck.
Hope this will fix your problem.
Thank you for using Fixya.
Bye.
Let me know your comments too.
Take care.

It sounds like a power supply problem, not anything you have done. This day and age the new electronics are only built for min running requirement, as in the working capacity of the power supply.

It has a standby mode thats why most things have a led to show you if its on or off. so you can have instant picture, if you have turned this type of teleivision off at the wall it would take a few minutes to get a lets say a stable picture.
But this means the the powersupply is only in sleep mode only and uses bare min, to run and when you push the power on button you have life and then your picture.
Try this if and when it comes on and stays on, then it goes off on you, turn it off from at the wall and leave it for 5-10 min and try again, if it comes alive its a heat problem in the supply and maybe a dry joint which needs to be looked at.
If it does not try turning off and on at the set not at the remote, it could be the remote section is not working properly and have the same sort of fault. If you think it could be in the set up, try your sleep mode set up, it could be turned on, so check if the TV goes off at the same time say 5 min's everytime??

If it's the first fault you will have to get it back if its still under warranty very quickly, these are inherent problems, c.
if its the type where you have a power lead that plugs into the set and the wall Check that too, hope this helps

I have a Panasonic 62 inch rear projector tv and the lamp light is turning red so my tv will not turn on, i was told its either the bulb or a dirty filter the question is where is the filter

It's most likely the Bulb. We had the same issue with ours only 1 year after buying it. Luckily we purchased from Costco and called them. They had someone come out, replace it and didn't cost me a dime. (When I called Panasonic they said the lamp was covered under the 5 year lap warranty, but the labor for someone to come out was going to be $100.)

My 62 inch mitsubishi tv was hit by lighting

Try to find a local repair centre & ask if they can give you an estimate on the cost to repair. A lightning strike can cause either minor damage such as just an internal fuse blown or can cause severe damage which will wipe out entire circuit boards which can be a costly repair. In this case it's usually not worth repairing.

Samsung plasma TV, half screen is blacked out

Well, as per my last posting, I thought I would share. The problem of the bottom half of my 42 inch Samsung Plasma blacked out - meant a trip to the local TV repair shop. I have to say, they were great. I took it in and they were able to fix it after replacing a part - had my TV back in about a week. Cost was approx. $300. This was well worth it, considering how much I had paid for this TV only a few years ago. I had the repair done last month and so far, it's been great. Sorry, but I can't remember the name of the part.

Annoying Scan type Lines

First you need a new repairman. It should not cost 800 to 900 dollars to repair any or all of the boards in the unit and any reputable repair facility would deduct the cost of the service call from the bill not add it on. The Perfect Focus problem sounds like a convergence issue. It's hard to tell from your description whether the bars are misconvergence or something else. Bad CRTs? Maybe, but I doubt that is the problem with only two years on them. You need to check with friends or neighbors and find a repairman who knows what he is doing and isn't out to fleece you or talk you into buying a new unit. I've fixed plenty of projection TVs for under $100 (We only charge $75 for a service call, work on your unit for 1 hour, and subtract this from the cost of repair) If I can fix it in an hour with no parts it only costs you $75. Get a new repairman with intelligence and integrity and I think your problems will be solved at a price you can afford and be happy with. Good luck.
