Question about Dayton Gas Furnace Heater

Dayton Gas Furnace - Blower will not shut off

Hello The interlock switch located on the lower access panel broke so we replaced it with a compatable lever switch from Grainger and remounted. The Furnace now runs, however the blower now remains running constantly. We were unable to get the correct interlock switch since Carling the manufacturer did not put a model number on it and basically hung up on me when I called, love that customer service. Anyway I am wondering where to look next: is there one or two switches that I should check (fan switch and limit switch or is it most likely a combination switch?) Thermostat is old school with no continuous blower setting. Any help much appreciated.

Furnace keeps running for awhile after it has come up to temp

Normal...the gas shuts off & the blower stays on to cool down the heat exchanger either by time or temperature.

Furnace blower runs continuously but no heat

sounds like the furnace control (low voltage) circuit is open, or in other words you either have a fuse blown or a limit switch that needs to be reset. Most newer furnaces have a small knife like fuse, usually 3 or 5 amp located directly on the circuit board. Limit switches that have a manual reset are usually located in the fire box just above the burner. There may even be a limit switch located on the blower assembly. If you fuse was blown, you may need to find out what caused the short in the circuit or it will do it again. If the limit switch was tripped, you need to turn the furnace back on and watch the flame to see if there is "roll out". It it continues to trip or blow fuses you need to have the unit serviced.

The blower on my Dayton furnace runs but there is no flame/ignition. Just blows unheated air. It continues to run regardless of whether the thermostat is calling for heat or not. Anyone have any ideas?

When the blower motor run all the time, that mean you have a safety limit tripped. One of the limit is located on top of the burner, to reset that all you have to do is press down on a little tap that sticking up in the middle of the switch. The second switch is located at the flute pipe, to reset the switch is the same procedure. The third limit switch is located on the heat exchanger box itself, this one cannot be reset, you will need an ohm meter to check for contunuity. Set meter to ohm function, if the meter read nothing then the switch is bad. Good luck.

Furnace will kick on, begin heat up, go to the point where the fan should start and the whole thing shut down. If I move the thermostat down below the temp it show, it will start again and do the same...

Hi,

Sounds like the blower motor is bad and then the unit is kicking off on high limit....

Probably nothing you can do with out getting a new motor to replace the bad one...

The pole buiding 24 in hanging Dayton sometimes the blower comes on like after 5 minutes after everything else kicks in and sometimes like when its supposed to and sometimes not at all?? All the electric...

I'm not sure whether this is a gas unit or not. With many gas heaters, the blower comes on when the heat exchanger gets hot enough and goes off once the heat exchanger cools. Other things are happening before the blower goes on. The blower is normally controlled by a "fan control thermostat". This stat actuates the blower when the furnace is hot enough so that cold air is not being blown around and allows the blower to run until the furnace cools enough to get out the remaining heat after the flame shuts off but not so long to again allow cool air to blow around. If this fan control is malfunctioning, you will get erratic runs from the blower or the blower may not run at all or run long or continuously. The fan control is the first thing to check.

Nordyne furnace. The furnace comes on, flame comes on, blower comes on and then works for about 3 second and shuts off. Then starts the cycle all over again.

Hello. The first thing you can do is check the flame sensor, this is a small metal rod on the opposite side of the ignitor, Turn off power to the unit remove flame sensor and clean it with some steel wool. Also check the flame sensor to make sure there are no cracks in the base of it, if so then replace the flame sensor. If you have checked the flame sensor and the problem still continues you might have a problem with the unit not being grounded properly, you should have a ground wire coming from the main electrical panel to the furnace. If the ground wire is there and problem continues the control board should be replaced. I hope this helps.

With Model #GF9s120d20up11g, gas furnace, the blower model behind first top access door is very hot but furnace won't ignite, what"s the problem?

You did not mention if the blower is turning or not. If so, take a jumper wire and jump out the pressure switch to see if the igniter glows. If so, you either have a bad pressure switch, the inducer motor (the hot one) is not blowing enough to close the pressure switch, blockage in the condensate hoses or blockage in the vent system. If the blower does not turn, replace it.

Can i shut down the gas furnice to change the air filter with out touch the temotast??

Yes you can and if originally installed by code ther
should be either a fused disconnect or a breaker mounted on the furnace. The fuse will have a cover
and a black switch below or above it.

If nothing is there but romex wire cable, then it is
hard wired in and most likely will have to be shutoff
at the fuse or breaker panel.

It is more dangerous to turn off at the fuse or breaker
panel. I recommend shutting the thermodtat to
the off position. If the furnace is within 10 years
old you could remove the top door and then lower door. The lower door when in place holds a switch
in that lets the power pass through it, when removed
your furnace should not operate.

Take my advive3 and do the simple thing and turn
the thermostat to the off position.

Where is the location of the air filter on a dayton fuel trimmer gas furnace and what type does it take?

The filters are usually located inside the furnace above or below the blower motor, inside of a compartment door. That is only if you do not have filters in the grills inside the house. The type would be hard to say, but when you find them (theres usually 2 or more), they will have a size on them and you can pick them up at Home Depot, Lowes, Wal-Mart, etc. Hope this helps.
