HI-Fi Amp Issues

Hi Tere...
I need some help please....
I have a 5.1 Hi-fi amp, when I turn it on (power) the volume increases and does not stop at a particular level - it just keeps climbing - I turn it lower via the remote, it does go lower - but then just climbs to maximum again... do you have any ideas for me please in terms of how best I can fix this?

Thanks a mill

Hi,
I'd love to have more information to go on, but I can give you a few things to check:
If there is a traditional volume control that is motorized, you will see the volume knob start moving on its own after you start it up. If that is the case, you'll need to have someone look at the motor control circuit. Luckily these are almost so generic that parts would be as common as replacing fuses.
If there is a volume knob that is an encoder, it may be faulty. How to tell if it is an encoder? Easy. If it will spin continuously with no extra effort, in both directions, it is an encoder. If in fact there is an encoder present underneath the knob, and the amp is responding to the remote correctly, it may be as simple as someone replacing the encoder.
If there is no volume knob at all, just a couple buttons to press, one for up, one for down, there are issues in that circuit that will need to be addressed.
If the volume control is only from the remote, and it keeps climbing on its own until you turn it down, there is a digital volume control chip that controls the volume. Unfortunately, anything in the circuit from that chip itself, all the way back to the sensor for the remote, could be faulty.
HOWEVER, do not despair yet, there may be another area to check. Turn the amp on, then IMMEDIATELY take the batteries out of the remote. If the volume stops climbing right there and then, guess what? :) Time for a new remote, or have someone take a look at the one you have if it is an expensive unit. One more related thing to check: If there are any other remotes in the room, remove them, or any other possible sources of infrared light. Alternately, take a piece of heavy black electrical tape and cover the sensor for the remote, and turn the amp on. If it behaves normally, something else in the room is "telling" the amp to increase volume. If any of these tests produce results no different from what you've experienced so far, the fault is in fact inside the amp.

How many watts onkyo p3300 amp & pre-amp home stereo audio

Sorry I don't know the answer to your question because I don't know the specification of your amplifier but like a car engine that might have a capability of, say, 200 horsepower, in use and for practical purposes that figure is completely immaterial because most of those horses would never be used by a responsible driver. It requires only about 20 horsepower for an average car to maintain 50mph so it hardly matters what the potential power output is as long as it is capable of doing the work assigned to it.

The average person listening to a hi-fi in an average room requires an average power output of around half a watt. It is immaterial if the amplifier is capable of 50, 150 or 500 watts because for comfortable distortion-free listening most of that potential power will never be used.
With hi-fi the problems start with the speaker systems. It is a mistake to use a high power speaker in a domestic environment regardless of the potential amplifier power output. The amp will only produce the power it is capable of if it is driven hard (the volume turned up) and because doing that is anti-social, wasteful and harmful to health and comfort that should not happen but high power speakers tend not to reproduce sound efficiently at low power and so more power must be provided than would otherwise be needed with good low power speakers.
Fashions have changed and it is now difficult to find good hi-fi speakers for the domestic environment that reproduce sound efficiently at low power levels and speakers with a 10 watt rating, the ideal type for small to moderately-sized accommodation, are almost impossible to find these days but it is still possible to find good drive units rated at between 20 and 50 watts that perform fairly efficiently at social volume levels.

My toshiba tablet wont connect to my wi-fi please help

1. Make sure that your wi-fi settings are turned on.
2. Scan for local wi-fi
3. Select your desired wi-fi and provide password if required.

Many times, the settings from the menu are not turned on, so the tablet will not try to link to a wi-fi site.

If you need more help, please provide the model number and the operating system currently being used on the tablet.

Hi, I want to install both fujitsu fi 5750c and 5530C2 Scanners in same PC. OS is win XP. I tried through setup, but when one is installed, second one's setup says already having Scanner Utility...

Hi,

There is no need of installing driver for fi-5530c2 scanner as the driver comes bendled in the fi-5750c scanner. Hence, please install the driver for fi-5750c.On the application, you need to chnage the scanner model under "Select Scanner" menu.

Hope the above information is helpful.

Does this unit come with speakers

If it has no volume control or terminals for speakers then it is a hi-fi seperate and needs to be connected to an hi-fi amp to work.

Volume Control??

Unlike low-end hi-fi systems where you buy one box that does everything, the CD player you have is part of a component hi-fi system (i.e. you buy your CD player, tuner, amplifer etc. as separate items.) This is why there is no volume control. It needs to be connected to an amplifer. It's on the amp that you will find the volume control and where you connect the speakers. (When you connect it to your television, you are just using that amp in the TV instead.)

The CD player did originally ship with a remote control, but I don't know where you would be able to buy one on its own. You may find the the remote does allow you to alter the output level of the CD player, but you still need to connect it to a proper amp to get it to work.

Hope this helps,

Matt
