It sounds like the inverter for the backlight has died.
They are about $100, unless you shop eBay. I just found one for my sister's AlienWare D9T for $36 with shipping.
The little rubber buttons around the screen must come off, they are just stuck on with sticky-stuff, but they are tenacious. Underneath there are small philips-head screws, you'll need to get a small set if you haven't already.
Then after the screws are out around the bezel (that's what the plastic around the screen is called) you'll have to carefully pop it off. There are several tabs around the edges, be careful not to break the tabs or the bezel. Be patient.
At the bottom of the screen, there is a narrow board with LEDs and buttons on it, and the large lump is the transformer used in the inverter to create the high-voltage AC required by the backlight tubes. There will be one or two small philips-head screws holding it in.
That is the board you'll need to replace. A big, big caution: on my sister's AlienWare, the connectors on the cables are really horrible. The plastic is crumbling, they are -very- difficult to remove without falling apart. If you break them, it is a -lot- more complex replacing those cables. Once you have to open the main part of a laptop, it starts reminding me of the puzzlebox in "Hellraiser".
I hope this helps, Steve Greenfield

When i starts my laptop, i can see black screen. in bright light, i can read littlebit but now clearly. can you please tel me whats wrong? what i need to do?

If I had your laptop model I could point you to the exact part. It is a bad LCD inverter. It is a small tube shaped circuit board located under the LCD screen behind the screen bezel. One end connects to the LCD data cable, and the other end has a 2 pin connector that goes to the LCD backlight bulb. The part is usually about $10-15 and is relatively easy to replace yourself. Remove the screws on the bottom of the screen bezel and carefully pull the bezel out toward you. You will see the inverter there. Unplug both ends, replace with the new one and re-assemble. cheifhoho.jpg

Approximately 2/3 of the screen is dark. this started about six months ago and is progressively becoming worse. when problem began the screen would recover to full brightness after it was on for 30...

Hi is sounding like a backlight is going/has gone out...these can be proffesionally replacedat a repair shop...To self diagnose if it is the backlight take a flashlight and, with tv on and while on a tv channel and carefully form different angles look into the 'dark' part of the tv screen...if the/a backlight on a lcd tv/monitor goes out(even laptop screens) then u can still see a faint image with a flashlight(or without one with a good eye)....If you still see the (tv channel) image, then it is most likely a bad backlight......
I hope this helped you some, if it did(or not) please rate!...Thank you

Real dark screen on Toshiba A135-s4437

First I would check to make sure that the contrast/brightness buttons on the laptop weren't accidentally changed, making the screen dark. Also, try with and without the battery and power supply. Otherwise, unless it is actually the screen that is defective, it is usually a power converter replacement, which is a small circuit board, usually under the plastic cover directly under the monitor, which supplies power to the monitor. You may want to take it to a shop as they can isolate the issue easier.....

Screen is on but picture dose not show... cables connected

Solution, replace monitor with a new one.
I have found, at my shop, that getting parts for these things can be pricey and by the time I charge labor as well, could just buy a new one.
Probably a bad internal power supply or the inverter that powers the bulb(s) went out, which is sometimes built in with the power supply itself. If, and I stress IF, the parts are available, be prepared to pay more than its worth.
Pick up a new one, shop around on different brands. Some manufacturers offer 3 year warranties. ;)
