My mp3 player has a lock pictured on it.. it wont play i cant add or delete files because of the picture of this lock. i dont know how this lock ended up on here

Try deleting the songs this way

Deleting Files,Pictures,Videos,Audio Books, etc. from MP3 Player
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hook up your mp3 player to your computer
Go to your desktop and double left click on "My Computer"
When it opens you will see listing that says "Devices with Removal
Storage" your mp3 player should be listed there.
Right click on your mp3 player, and a window will open, right click on
"Open" and now your files/songs should be visible.
Hold the left click down and drag it across all the files/songs that
you do not want this will highlight the files/songs you do not want,
release, right click and then click on "Delete"
Now your mp3 player should be clear of the files/songs you do not want.
Be careful and do not delete files needed to operate your MP3 player.

Need help deleting songs from ipod and loading more on it?

Connect your Ipod and the device will be detected onthe PC. you can select and delete off all the files that is opened after checking them one by one.
Now Apple nano needs the use of the software ITUNES that is available in the apple ipods nano site. Log on and download , install and run the program.
You can now select all the songs to this software which can be loaded into the nano ipod on connection and routing.

I can't delete songs off my YP-T9J

It's not a hard work that you can have a try powerful program Leawo Tunes Cleaner. Leawo Tunes Cleaner is a professional duplicate music remover.
Step 1. Run Tunes Cleaner and Scan Duplicate Songs
After kicking off Leawo Tunes Cleaner for Windows, click the "Clean-up Duplicates" entry. The program provides 2 duplicates scanning modes: Quick Scan mode and Deep Scan mode. Select one of them to scan duplicate songs.

Step 2. Add Music Files for Duplicates Removing
You could delete duplicate songs in iTunes music library by directly clicking "Scan iTunes" button or click "Add" button to load music files for duplicates removing. Or you could directly drag music files from your local folder to the software for duplicates removing.

Step 3. Start Deleting Duplicates
After loading source music files, click the "Scan" button on the upper-right corner to start scanning duplicates. The program would display all duplicates clearly and suggest what to remove. You could decide which duplicates to delete by checking them and then click the "Remove" button to remove duplicate songs.

Deleting all memory at once

Ipod manuals http://www.apple.com/support/manuals/ipod/ Not sure if you have 1st or 2nd gen 1st: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iPod_nano_Features_Guide.pdf 2nd: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iPod_nano_2nd_Gen_Features_Guide.pdf These manuals suggest that when you connect to itunes, it automatically deletes all songs not in your library. Otherwise i don't see a format option unless the drive shows up in my computer and you can format it there (right click). It basically suggests that you have to use one of the manual methods on the pod or computer to delete songs. Have fun!
