Unable to download olympus M2gb pictures on computer with xd smc adapter

I have an fujifilms3000 camera. Purchased an olympus m2gb memory card. Took pictures with camera. Trying to download pictures (lost cord for camera/computer connection). Used an xD-SmC adapter SMC Interface card on laptop to download all my pictures on the Fujifilm xd memory card. Tried to download pictures on my olympus m2gb card and it doesn't want to recognize it. When I get it up actually come up on screen, it displays a folder and when I click on it it shows one icon with the word downloading on it. My machine then indicates an error report and will not download picture.

Be sure you have formatted the card, not the internal memory (if the camera has that).
Be sure your battery is fully charged, so that the device can fuly write the file.
Be sure you are writing the file to the card, and not the internal memory, as there may not be enough space on it to write the file.
If this does not resolve the problem, let me know.

SOURCE: Olympus 2G xd M card with pictures - error message "clean card" or format

Just had the same issue today. The Olympus Helpdesk told me that the fact I had printed one of the picture from the Xd card in directly inserting the card in the printer slot for Xd created the problem....
The guy from the Helpdesk strongly recommended to transfer the pictures from the camera to the computer exclusively using the USB cable of the camera.
In the end I have saved all my 505 pictures in using the Smart Recovery from PC Inspector but why the hell this problem only happens with Xd cards?

SOURCE: Olympus xD-Picture Card "Card Error"

First things first - need to make sure that the card is making proper electrical contact with the camera. Have a look at the contacts at the edge of the card and make sure they are spotlessly clean - even a fingerprint may cause problems.

Also, make sure the contacts in the camera have nothing causing a contact problem, and see if this resolves the issue.

Yes, you can use the XD M+2GB card in your camera. The M+ card is a faster one. The following website gives you more on it.
http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_xd.asp

"The Type M+ xD-Picture card is compatible with the Type M card in all cameras and is 1.5 times faster than the Type M card. The increase in speed may be useful in sequential shooting of digital stills and in the recording of high-density video with Olympus cameras."

Good luck.

Sorry, but every indication confirms that you have a faulty memory card. It's either a manufacturing error or a handling error (you should never normally touch the contacts except as you have already been directed to do so).

There is only one fix and that is to replace it.

You may find that your xD is still under warranty in which case it will be exchanged by Olympus free of charge. In practice I've found that with major brands, faulty memory cards are often exchanged free on a goodwill basis even after the warranty has expired, especially when my politely-worded letters point out how loyal I've been in the past to the brand and that my money will be going to a rival company if I'm forced to buy a new card.

I regret that your card is unrepairable, but I hope that my reply has still confirmed that there is no other solution to your problem.

It sounds like your XD card is corrupted. How and why i couldn't tell you. You will need to get the pictures recovered from the card using a special software (image recovery software, can down load for free from some web sites, or some companies can try and do it for you) and then try and format the card in the camera. DO NOT FORMAT THE CARD BEFORE YOU RETRIVE YOUR IMAGES. If you do all traces of the images may be lost.

All the best and happy snapping.

Screen reading memory card not initialized

Hello

  • Insert your memory card into your computer's reader if you have one. If not, you can purchase a multi-format USB Memory Card reader from Amazon.com or Buy.com
  • 2 Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives.
  • 3 Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive.
  • 4 In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'.
  • 5 Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place.
  • 6 Once the process is completed, take the memory card out and insert it into your Digital Camera or any other device. Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.
