It's okay to surf the web or doing any ordinary things, but when I try to play diablo 2 or american conquest, generally 2d games, the color will break up and I can't even read a word. Then I quit the game, the color back to normal but the wallpaper resolution is changed and the walpaper's color seem to be that of an 8 bit one. Any idea?

Okay, it could be two things, 1.) Your graphics card is either overheated or going out. 2.) it's possible you have a messed up display screen. I'd try looking at your computer display settings and see if you can calibrate the color on your screen to see if it helps or not.
The fist thing I would do is run sfc/ scannow, if that doesn't fix it I would suggest a full reinstall of windows if you haven't done that. The other thing is that being an HP it may be the onboard video dying, but since its running an ATI onboard card not nvidia I wouldn't think thats the case but if it is not cooled well it could be the problem.
Try with the power adaptor attached - It is most likely to be a battery problem. AMI (America Megtrends) are the people who write the software to tell the laptop what it is and what it has to play with. ( HDD, RAM, DVD CPU etc.) If any of these things are missing it won't work. Hope this helps. If it doesn't you will need to give more details. e.g. is it windows and what flavour or what screen you see before the message pops up.
If you are not playing in windowed mode, Diablo II takes control of your
screen and changes it's resolution down to 800x600 or 640x480. If you
are in windowed mode, there are other things on the screen, so Diablo
does not have control of your resolution. Diablo II can not scale up
it's window to more than 800x600. If you want the 800x600 to take up
more of your screen, then set your screen to a smaller resolution.
Sounds like an intermittent failure of the LCD (Those can be a pain to isolate when something works, then doesn't etc.) Hopefully the repair depot will get to see the LCD problem this time. As for known issue with that model, I haven't seen any trend with it. A search on the internet didn't show any trend either.
