Re: kenmore Elite top load washer timer will not rotate...
Gkar06, Hello Welcome to fixya. I'm Huuum and happy to assist you,
You said, Each portion of the wash/rinse/spin cycle work correctly, but you have to manually move the timer to each cycle.
This tells us the timer is bad and needs service to replace it! You will be fine, it is not a big job!
If you like you can try this first!
Like with an error code. This can reset the system if it is electronic! Unplug the washer and wait a 5 minutes then restart it. If you can't reach the plug, use the breakerto cut the power for 5 minutes.
It's like rebooting your computer when its acting strange! Usually it corrects some error problems if they are not serious. Or they are sometimes just a glitch. let me know how it works out.
How old is the appliance?
Let me know! Please remember to enter a rating before you leave. Thank You

Since the motor turns regadless of the direction it turns itself is good and theirfore the problem with your washer i believe is going to be the control board,it is what tells the motor what direction and what speed to turn.
seems the timer knob is old and need of replacement normally happens due to age as the timer switches inside the timer knob become old and sticky mostly unable to move so the timer isnt able to do much of its job
your washer is not agitating - 1. Check that water level switch works 2. Does it attempt to move when selected? Washer timer contacts may be burnt. 3. Your motor could be bad - washing spinning different ckts
POWERUP, YOUR WASHER COULD BE THE LID SWITCH OR THE COLD WATER VALVE. AT THE END OF THE WASH CYCLE, THE MOTOR WILL SPIN OUT THE WATER, BUT ONLY IF THE LID SWITCH IS ACTUATED. IF THE SWITCH IS BAD, IT WILL NOT SPIN OUT THE WATER AND THE TIMER WILL NOT ADVANCE FROM THAT POINT.
IF THE WASHER SPINS, THE NEXT STEP IS TO FILL WITH WATER FOR THE RINSE CYCLE. MOST WASHERS USE COLD WATER FOR RINSES. IF THE COLD WATER VALVE IS RESTRICTED OR FAULTY, THE WASHER WON'T FILL. IF THE WASHER WON'T FILL, THE WATER LEVEL SWITCH WON'T ACTIVATE AND THE TIMER WON'T ADVANCE TO THE NEXT STEP.
