It is my understing that Windows XP was asking for a password and you chenge the one in the BIOS

Now the BIOS is asking for the password that you put when you say you resetted.

Please enter the password that you put in the BIOS and let me know if you are going to get a different screen other then the blue square with the picture of a key.

Best regards

mmm.... you did the right thing with the BIOS but why do you want to give up so easy on the XP password?

Do you really want to install everything?

First I suggest you try to login as Administrator instead that you, I hope you didn't setup also an administrator password and I hope that if you did you didn-'t forget that one as well.

Second if the Administrator login failed you have other options:

    1 - Follow these instructions http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/pub00...

2 - You can boot your computer using a bootable OS like Knoppix, recover all your documents and then reinstall Windows (Takes time)

3 - Why don't you try the free version of this recovery tool (free if can afford to wait 72 hours) http://www.loginrecovery.com/

    Good luck

PS let me know how it goes.

Compaq SR1650NX HARD DRIVE MESSED UP RECOVERY DISK WON'T WORK REPLACED HARD DRIVE CAN'T GET BIOS TO RECONIZE HARD DRIVE SHOWS UP IN BOOT BUT NOT IN MAIN HP SAID TO INSTALL NEW OS HAD OLD 98SE LOADED WORKED...

Are you trying to set up a raid configuration? If not I would reformat using the 98 disk and reinstall. (You may be able to skip installing 98, try installing xp first and it should ask for the disk containing the software (win98) that qualifies for the upgrade.

I need a product key for Windows XP Pro on a Compaq desktop

The OEM windows that shipped with the system is BIOS locked and autoloads the Key when you boot to the Compaq branded CD. If you are using a Windows Version then the Product Key is on the sleeve of the CD. If you are missing your key, then you must contact Microsoft as posting a key here is a violation of the terms of service for the site and the Microsoft License Agreement.

Changing Vista to XP Pro on a Compaq Presario SR2180NX Desktop PC

SR2180NX has the Vista 32Bit OS from HP. The restore partition will always put Vista 32Bit back on if you use it. Windows XP can only be put on from scratch and I have done it while I still have Vista installed. One problem: there are no XP drivers under SR2180NX webpages. Do your research on the parts that are installed in the 2180 and any other HP machines that have the Windows XP operating system as the OEM OS. But First, check the Intel Site for the 945 chipset drivers (include the SouthBridge, too) under XP. Get them downloaded to a CD and burn the rest of the drivers you find for XP on the same CD. This way, you will have them ready when you are performing the down-grade to windows xp. After you are done with the XP install, you will still have access to the files & work you had done while in Vista. The Vista files are still readable. You might want to consider getting the Windows 7 Professional (not basic) available October 22, 2009. AND you will still have to get the Intel Downloads for Win7 any way, so why not make it a project and make it last for a few years. XP Support stops in 2014.

You first find a Windows installation disk valid for the licence sticker on computer, then download drivers from HP website.

Unable to Acces BIOS on IBM Netvista 607931u w/ Phoenix ROM BIOS

When the IBM Setup Utility program prompt is displayed, quickly press F1.
The prompt is displayed for only a short time.
if you dont see the prompt, tap F1 repeatedly as the computer starts. If it says "starting windows" you've let it go too far and will have to restart again and repeat the process to get into the bios
