Question about GE Profile JTP56 Electric Double Oven

JKP56 and JTP56 Differences

Does anyone know the difference between the JKP56 and the JTP56 models? I have the JKP and need to replace the controller and touch pad. I found a relatively un-used JTP56 on Craigs list for about the same cost as the repair parts. I thought that could swap the parts and have the extra to upgrade parts. Looks like an easy enough job. I just want to understand the meaning of the model letters. Thanks in advance.

Thank you MNTECH. That is exactly what I needed. The original problem is that the bottom oven start key will not work. I tried the fix with the index cards and the ribbon cable, no luck. The GE tech quoted me two parts and labor, coming in around $840 for the fix. I am not ready to remodel my kitchen yet, so looks like I need to bite the bullet and get the parts ordered before Thanksgiving.

Those are not full model numbers, but basically a JKP56 fits a 27 inch cabinet and a JTP56 fits a 30 inch cabinet, so obviously the key panel / control panel would be different. I looked up a couple ERC range controls, and they are also not compatible. Note: usually you will not need both of those parts. The most common of the two is the front panel. (common F1 error code) If this answers your question a "FixYa" rating would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you were willing and able to mess with the ribbon cable, I'd advise you to order the key panel first and install it yourself. That should save you big bucks. If for some reason you think you would still need the ERC (electronic range control) you can always order that after you replaced the key panel, but I'll bet you won't have to. Good luck.

Panel on jkp56 is dimming

Try removing the connectors to the electronic control (power off first) panel and reinserting them. It could be just poor connections. If this doesn't fix it the control board or power board could be failing.

FO ERROR ON OVEN

Seems F0 is a problem either with the control panel or with the key panel
Here is a test to find out whether its your control panel or control board:

Determine if problem is with the Key Panel or Control by:
1. Pushing CLEAR/OFF pad.
2. Disconnecting Ribbon Cable from control and waiting at least 32 seconds to see if Code recurs

If code recurs, problem is in the control. Replace control.

If code does not recur, problem is with the Key Panel.

You can go to this site to find replacements

GE Oven JKP56...after Self Clean bottom element in upper oven stays hot. Breaker off, let cool, breaker on...bottom element gets warm (all controls off). the breaker is off for now. Please help.

Hello, Thank You for using FixYa. I will be helping you today.Leave the power off remove the screws from under the panel and lift up to open the control panel. There are reset-able fuses in there check them by pressing the center red button if they are ok check the screen in front of the fan make sure its not blocked up it will cause this problem too.If all that is ok then the relay on the control fused closed and you would have to replace the control board with the relays on it.
Thank You and please rate my answer if it was helpful..

I just bought a 35 w halogen bulb from lowes for my GE truetemp profile JKP56 built in oven. I just spoke to a GE rep who sells the bulbs and he said the bulb has no replacement numbers so I don't...

If the bulb you bought from Lowes is a 35 watt bulb and it screws in, then it will work just fine.
Appliance parts people love to sell you the "one" specific for your model because most of the time it is more profitable for them.

Good Luck!

GE double oven Model JTP56WOA2WW top oven won't heat up, fan runs, relay clicks, no heat

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

This indicates an open/shorted oven temperature sensor and to solve this problem the temp.sensor needs replacement. If you want to be sure before replacing the sensor then you can test it with a voltmeter for around 1100ohms....if it reads more then this then it needs replacement however, if the reading is around or less then 1100ohms then it is the control board that needs replacement. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

How do I find the part number for replacing control board for GE?

I would not be so sure about that the problem is in the control board. Check switches on the door lock assemblies first.

Not sure on the make but it appears that the timer clock display is failing. Replacement cost is typically £80 but without the make i cannot give you a accurate costing. Fitting would be extra.

JTP56 Self Cleaning issue

It sounds like you need to replace the door latch assembly. One of the switches on it is not working properly so the control is not getting the correct signal for the door latch position. It could be an oven control problem, but most likely it is the latch.
Post back with the complete model number from the oven if you need more help and I will answer as soon as I can.
Thanks, Mike
