Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router

2 Answers

Problem I called X box Live for my X Box because me and a friend are not able to connect and play a game online or talk with our headsets. They told me that I should call you and disable the DMZ and UPNP, and that would solve my problems. Can you help me and walk me through this problem? Thank You You could call me if it would be easier. My name is Dan at 636-399-5814 (cell). Thanks

Hi dan,

access the setup page of your router, using the computer that is connected to your router, if you haven't change its default ip address, you can still access it by using 192.168.1.1 ip address, anyways follow the instructions below...

how to change MTU
1. open internet explorer
2. type 192.168.1.1 on the address bar
3. will pop-up for the username and password : leave it empty for the username and admin for the password (admin is the default password, if its not accepting it, key in any password your using). If your were able to access the configuration page.
4. under setup look for MTU, set it to manual and change the size, 1492 (commonly used)
5. and click the save settings button.

how to change the UPnP
...since you still have the configuration page, just click on administration tab and look for UPnP and select disabled and save settings.

hope this would help solve your problem. thanks

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Friends hear echo when headset is on in x-box live party chat

I had the same exact problem with a brand new x32 headset. right out of the box it was echoing for my friends. Also, if I muted my mic it would kill the chat volume (ie barely even audible). I switched the voice to play through speakers and it worked flawlessly after that.

Not sure if it is a hardware issue with my controller (my other headset worked just fine) or if it is a defective cable I received, or a design flaw with the x32. If you are looking for a work around, try setting it to play through speaker.

I set up an x box live account and it worked fine

its probably the game you are playing, probably the servers for that game is no longer running. try to check if you will be able to play online with other games.

XBOX Live is "connected" but i cant play any games online because the server is always "Temporarily unavailable"

xbox live has recently added three ports for wireless internet.
if you know how to open ports (protocols) on your wireless router, then the following should be open (enabled) for your xbox 360s IP adress:
TCP
: 80

TCP and UDP:
:3074
:88
:53

Disconnects me for no reason then i lose all my work.

google the ports for the xbox 360 and xbox live, then set your router to forward those ports to your xbox, also manually set your xbox's ip address so it dosent change and your ports won't have to be re-configured.

Do u have to pay to go online on the xbox 360

Hello there.

On the Xbox 360, you'll have two choices of service level: Xbox Live Silver and Xbox Live Gold. Xbox Live Silver will offer limited Xbox Live functionality at no cost, while the Gold package will be a fully functional pay service.

The Xbox Live Silver service means you can connect your Xbox 360 console to a broadband Internet connection and get functionality right out of the box without having to pay any amount of money.

With Xbox Live Silver you can:
  • Create an online Gamer Profile
  • Access the Xbox Live Marketplace
  • Engage in voice and text messaging
  • Talk to a single friend at a time using voice chat
  • Receive video messages from Gold level members
  • Access massively multiplayer online games (additional fees may apply)
The Xbox Live Gold is similar to the current paid Xbox Live service. The Xbox Live Gold service delivers the complete online connection package. With Xbox Live Gold you have all the features of Silver level, and additionally:

  • Play multiplayer games online
  • Video chat
  • Multiplayer online tournaments
  • Participate in Xbox Live online programming, such as Game with Fame, Play and Win, and Prime Time activities.
Hope this clarifies things for you.

Wont link to x-box live,

Do you have your xbox upright? or flat? as I have came
accross this problem myself which is usually cured by laying the xbox flat. Don't know if it's gravity related or not. (This is the dvd drive by the way)

As for xbox live, are you signed up for xbox live gold or silver?

Silver doesn't let you play games online only gold does.

Hope this helps.
