I need this fixed before the replacement printhead arrives in the mail. My dad died a few days ago, and I need this printer to work now. Any suggestions?

could be the non-HP ink has clogged up the printhead. You should try a new printhead and see if that solves the problem. (I bet it returns if you keep using the lexjet ink)

Canon MP980 prints horizontal pink lines across

try to change the color ink. horizontal banding (the pink or other color lines appearing means horizontal banding) when there is a problem on one of the heating element of the printer head. since almost all canon printers have head built in the inks, replacing the faulty ink will solve the problem. if not then the controller of printhead on the carriage and mainboard needs to be checked.

"banding" on photos

It sounds like you need a new purge assembly, that's the unit on the right where the printhead parks. It does the cleaning and also primes the printhead during printing, the ink can clog in the tubes and pumps and if you are printing photos, I would replace it before wasting any more photo paper.

Red and blue lines across printouts

open printing preferences and click on maintenance. Run the print head alignment utility. Sometimes this will remove the horizontal banding. I had this same problem and had to uninstall the printer and reinstall just like it was new, running the alignment feature before it was corrected. Worked ok for a few days then started again. I assumed that the printhead is bad. To costly to repair and bought a new printer.
