Try pressing the reset switch if it has one. The reset switch should be a small pencil tip sized indentation on the face. It will not be marked. If you have no reset switch, you can try disconnecting power from the deck for a few minutes.

My KDC W-3044 is shown Protect. what should i do???

If it is in protect mode then you have a short in your system. A blown speaker will cause it to go into protect mode, also if there are any power supply problems like a loose ground wire or a sketchy connection at the wiring harness it will also trip. My advice is pull the deck check power supply and ground and wiring harness, if it doesnt go away you know its the speakers. It may however need to reset and you will need to unplug the wire bundle from the deck for a moment before getting into the messing with the speakers or wires. Hopefully that cures it so test it and see. Okay if that didnt fix it then you likely have a blown speaker somewhere in the vehicle so get that replaced and rock on.

Radio display says protect. does not emit sound.

Sounds like you have either a short in your speaker wire somewhere, wires touching in the back of the unit or a short inside the stereo itself... Try pulling the radio out and unhooking all of your speakers...Turn unit back on after all speakers are disconected...If unit still shows protect, then radio is bad...If it doesnt, power off and hook up speakers one by one and power it back on till it shows protect again....When it does, the last speaker wire you hooked up has either a crossed wire or the speaker is bad...

Kenwood KDC-MP732 CD Player in protect mode how do i get it off had a blown speaker fixed it and still in protect mode

Protect Mode (Blink): The speaker wire has a short-circuit or touches the chassis of the vehicle, and then the protection function is activated.

Solution: Wire or insulate the speaker cable properly and press the reset button.

Here is a copy of the Instruction Manual for the Kenwood KDC-X790 and KDC-MP732.

Protect mode is on all the time.It started making my speakers sound like the rca were touching then went to protect mode.no fuses blown now protect mode stayson, pretty new amp barely been used

POWER IT UP WITH NO SPEAKERS CONNECTED AND NO RCA INPUTS. IF IT STILL GOES INTO PROTECTION, THEN IT WILL NEED SERVICE. WHAT YOU PROBABLY HEARD AT FIRST WAS THE OUTPUT TRANSISTORS SHORTING AND STARTING TO SEND DC OUT TO THE SPEAKERS WHICH WOULD DESTROY THEM AND FURTHER DAMAGE THE AMPLIFER, SO THE PROTECTION CIRCUITS SEE THIS AND SHUT THE AMPLIFIER DOWN. LET ME KNOW IF YOU NEED FURTHER ASSISTANCE....V

This deck is in protect mode

A couple things may cause this:
If a speaker wire shorted out (either a voice coil or the wire itself is grounded; touches the vehicles chassis ground)
Solution: disconnect each speaker from the deck and see if it turns back on. 90% of the time thats the problem.

It could be overheating.

Security Code for Protect mode

Turn on the car so the radio is flashing "Protect." Look on the front / removable face of the stereo. On it you will find a small round hole - that's a reset button. Find a small paper clip, unfold the clip and stick it gently into the hole. The "Protect" will stop flashing, and Kenwood will be displayed. Unfortunately all your settings/presets will be gone, but at least the stereo is working again!

My stereo is flashing the work "PROTECT" across the front

In a Kenwood deck, "PROTECT" usually means that one of the speaker output wires is shorted. The first thing to do is pull the deck and inspect the wiring at the back, making sure there aren't any pinched or exposed wires. If a speaker wire is pinched against the deck chassis, or bare wire is touching dash metal, it can cause your problem. If you don't see anything obvious, disconnect all speaker wires from the deck, then turn it on. If it still flashes "protect", then you have a defect in the unit. If not, then re-connect the speakers one at a time until you find the one that causes it to go into Protect mode. Usually if you don't find a pinched or shorted wire behind the radio, the problem can be found at the speaker itself. This is especially common if you've installed after-market speakers; if a speaker terminal connection has come loose and is now touching the speaker basket or mounting surface, it will shut down the deck.
