Question about Miele Vacuums
First remove the bag and the filter, then open the top lid as far back as possible, and then push it a little further. It will make a horrible crunching noise as if it's broken, (which it isn't,) and will then lift free of the body. (If you're afraid to do this you can use a flat-head screwdriver to pry the tabs free by the hinges, but be gentle so you don't snap them.) Remove the screws from the front of the black assembly on the top, (where the on/off switch and power controls are located,) and lift it free. It may also make a horrible snapping sound, but it's ok. Then remove the five or so screws from the main body (in the colored plastic,) and flip the machine upside-down. You can then lift the bottom of the machine free and access the motor and cord reel from there. Reassembly is a reverse of this process, except when putting the main bag chamber lid back on you will need to use a screwdriver to gently hold the tabs out of the way when putting the hinges back on.
