The power LED of my compaq monitor blinks when powered. Sometimes it works well but after 20 minutes display disappears and it blinks the power LED.

Hi,
if the light blinks orange after a few minutes after use. The monitor would either require repair or replacement since the power board has gone bad.

Thanks

Desktop wont connect to internet but laptop will

Is your cable modem also a wireless router?

From my search on it, it is not a wireless router.

This means you need to attach a hub or a wireless router to your cable modem so that more than one computer can connect to the internet simultaneously.

Go out and buy a wireless router. Connect the wireless router to your cable modem.

Connect your desktop to the wireless router with an ethernet cable.

Then you should have internet on your desktop.

Let me know if this helps. Give me a good rating and vote for me please.

I have a Compaq Presario F500 laptop that is about 6 months old and the internal wireless card is going out. It takes about 2 hours of restarting before it actually turns green and picks up the signal. I...

You could try using a wireless adapter that connects through usb but the connection is not as strong. Otherwise I would try to buy an internal wireless card which is just installed into a PCI slot on your motherboard.

If it is one of the F500 family (ex. Compaq Presario F502AU Notebook PC), then you have to visit THIS site and select your model.

My friend has a Compaq presario f600 laptop & needs to replace the motherboard. What sort of motherboard would he need to get for it please?

I think I have the same laptop that also needs a motherboard. The Presario F600 also had a m/n of F572US found on the label with serial. Looking on the Compaq site I found the motherboard is the same as for the F500 notebooks which is 442875-001. Link is at: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01095493.pdf This number is also found under the memory chips on most Compaq/Hp Laptops. Simply open memory cover and remove the memory chips and there you will find the Motherboard replacement number. Good Luck!

Compaq Presario F500 - won't boot up - power and lights etc on, tries to start but cuts out after about a second

Check out this recall and see if it applies to your model laptop. From what I here, the motherboard may need to be replaced, and may be under a specila warranty.

I experienced this problem last night, and seemed to have fixed it this morning.

SYMPTOMS: HP Pavilion dv9000, Win Vista x64 Ultimate. Running on battery, battery level became critical; windows went into 'Hibernate' mode. Upon plugging in to mains power, and resuming the Windows session, the Wireless is still disabled, no matter what position the switch is in.

POSSIBLE CAUSE: Critical battery switches off the wireless network card to preserve power. Motherboard seems to log this status but when re-connecting to mains power the card does not receive power again. Uninstalling the driver and getting Windows to re-install automatically upon re-boot does not work.

SOLUTION: Charge up the battery whilst the computer is running. You can charge it to a substantial level, say, above 25%. Disconnect mains power so that your laptop is running on battery only. Set your wireless switch to OFF (this is usually to the left position, away from the orange indicator). Now run your computer down to the critical battery level again (perhaps overnight). In the morning when you press the power button, the 'CHARGE' indicator (looks like a lightning bolt) on the front of the laptop should flash quickly, indicating that there is no charge in the battery. Remove the battery from the laptop's underside. Wait a couple of seconds, then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Keeping the battery off the laptop, reconnect mains power. Boot up your PC. When at the Windows desktop and all your startup programs have finished loading, switch your wireless on (to the right position). You should now have a blue light, and wireless should once again be working. You can now re-insert your battery. You might have to setup your wireless network connection again as mine seemed to be 'lost', but at least hopefully the main problem is now fixed.

Want to purchase a wireless router to connect my compaq presario f500 to another desktop computer

Hi,

Most Wireless Routers by LinkSys, D-Link and NetGear are pretty good and stable. Personally, have tried LinkSys WRT54G (as a repeater), WRT300N and NetGear MR814.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Wireless trouble

Please try to check if the wireless adapter is listed on the DEVICE MANAGER.

WinXP
Please click the START button, then click CONTROL PANEL. Click the PERFORMANCE AND MAINTENANCE icon, then click the SYSTEM icon. Click the HARDWARE tab. Click the DEVICE MANAGER button.

And look for the wireless adapter

And for Vista you can check the site below.
