Hello.. Since the problem ocurred after a lightning storm then there is a good chance that your dvd player experienced a power surge from the power line and may be seriously damaged. Try unplugging the unit fromn the wall plug and let it staythat way for 10-20 minutes then plug it in again.. if it continues to malfunction then it is probably junk.. The power down/power up reset sometimes clears malfunctions like this but not always... and especially not if a component inside it is damaged.. Good Luck..
