You cant the backlights are an integral part of the LCD panel. The backlight inverters Boards) can be replaced but the actual backlights are inside the LCD panel assembly.

Could be the capacitors going or have gone out. This is a common problem with Vizio TVs...including mine recently. Check out YouTube for tutorials on how to change the capacitors.
Make sure you're in the TV mode. I have a friend who purchased a new plasma TV and 4 months later complained that it had no picture. I turns out that she somehow accidentally pressed some mode button on the corner of her remote control that took it into some auxillary mode for an external accessory device, thereby causing the screen to black out. If it's in the TV mode and you're not getting a picture, it may need to be serviced.
I have a television that did this. The picture went out but it continued to have sound. It was the projector bulb. I ordered from a dealer on ebay, very resonably priced. It came with instructions on how to install it and was a very easy fix.
That is exactly what it is. Mine, as well, (1yr and 4mos old) went out. But my sound, eventually, went out as well. However, I was lucky and had the two year warranty and it was covered. Apparently this is an issue. The fella's that picked up the TV made the remark that "this is another one".
I had the same issue happen to my vizio lcd just this weekend. Everyone is telling me is a bulb or backlight or something. It would explain the loud pop and no picture, but I'm not getting sound either so I'm not sure what exactly happened. Only after about 2 years too. I'm trying to find parts to just fix it myself.
