Question about NetGear FE108 8-Port Ethernet Hub (FE108NAR)

Netgear FE108 connections

I have moved our office and can't get the Ethernet Hub to work again. I may have connected something wrong.

I have a modem signal and I can get one computer in our office to receive the signal thrugh the hub but not the other 3 computers.

You must configure the other PCs in the same IP range of the netgear. fexample: if the netgear ip adress is 10.0.0.1 then the other PC should have an IP like 10.0.0.x (x = any number from 2 to 254)

How to hook it up to computer


alright man routers are easy look you need to have a MODEM!! INternet MODEM.. that has a LAN LINE or cord

1. connect your modem LAN line to the router, the router MUST have a HUB where you can plug it in the router hub it should say LAN connect it there!!
2. connect the ethernet cable that came with your router ,connect the ethernet cable to the router on the hub that says 1 connect it and the other side connect it to your computer!!.
3. now insert your disc that came with your router!
adjust your router settings!! allow wi-fi if available and put your password!!

4. your router is set!!

How to connect netgear fs108 to cable modem


leeb..... switches cannot be connected to the Cable modem.... because NAT will not be enabled in cable modem....so there wont be any DHCP server present in the cable modem....
Nat will be enabled only in DSL modem like AT&T verizon etc....So DHCP server will be present inside DSL modem...that is the reason why switches can be connected only to the DSL modem....
With NAT enabled modem, switch will work as a switch.... With NAT disabled modem, switch will work as a hub.... This is the difference....
Any doubts further ? please clarify with me.... I am ready to help you....

Trouble connecting netgear wireless router to rca modem DCM425


First try connection the Yellow ethernet cable from the rca modem to your computer's network connection. If you get a connection this way, then your modem will work with a ethernet cable. If not, then call Comcast for help. The modem ethernet out to computer port must be connected to the wan line of the router. Then you can connect an ethernet cable from your computer network connection to one of the 4 ports of the router. For wireless connections you must set up the router and wireless adaptor with the same settings to connect. Follow the routers directions.

Trying to connect two PC's to a Netgear FE108 switcher and a Thompson cable modem. Modem is connected to "Uplink" port on switcher. Normal/Uplink switch on switcher is set to "Uplink" Can connect one PC if...


Any network device, PC or otherwise, needs an IP address assigned. So, yes, both your PC's need an IP address.
Assuming your ISP lets you have multiple PC's(IP's) then you'll have to use the IP space provided by your ISP. The default gateway would also be provided by your ISP.


The way you SHOULD do this is to use a router, linksys for example. This way you can setup you private network(I.E. 192.168.10.10 for example). This will hide and protect YOUR private space from would be hackers. The router would use the REAL IP address on the outbound side to talk to the cable/DSL modem.

btw...you can use the ipconfig command at the command prompt(I.E. a DOS window) on your working machine to see the DHCP address and gateway that was assigned. Sound like your ISP only allows you one IP. The router solution above will fix that and let you connect as many as you want because the ISP will only see the one IP from the router.

Wireless Router Setup


There are a few things that might be wrong here. So let's go over the basics.

First off, make sure that everything is connected in the same way that it was previously. You have probably done this, but double check.

Second, try connecting your computer directly to the DSL modem through the ethernet cable. This will confirm where the problem has arisen. If you can get internet this way, but not after going through the router, than move onto the next step, otherwise, something has gone wrong in the DSL modem, or somewhere else, and it does not concern the router.

Lastly, your cable modem may have been only a modem, which means that it did nothing other than give you internet access. However, with many DSL providers, the "modems" they supply you with are more of a 1-port router than a modem. What I mean by this is that there is a good possibility your new modem blocks it's connection on certain ports.

Many DSL modems have a function to make them act as only a modem, and let a router do its job separately, but this will be specific to your modem. You may want to contact your ISP about this further.

Please list the model of the network hub you are using.  Also is a "hub/switch" or a routher.  Also are you using a DSL or Cable internet connection?  Please provide a little more details.

Netgear FR114P with Netgear DS108 not working


DNeser, Port forwarding and static routes isn?t the route to go down to fix this issue. I have an FR114 in a similar configuration and yours should work as well. -When connecting a hub to a router you should be using a certified, standard Ethernet cable, not a crossover. Make sure it?s certified for at least 100 Mbps. -If you are using port 8 on the hub to connect to the router make sure the Normal/Uplink button is set to Normal. -Are the Link and 100 Mbps LED green on both the hub and router ports you use to connect? If not try a known good cable; if that doesn?t work try different ports. Let us know how things work out and please don?t forget to rate this post.
