Laptop CD/DVD Drive
I have a problem with my CD/DVD drive on my Presario laptop. About 8 months ago, my computer mysteriously stopped recognizing the drive. Then, as mysteriously as the problem arose, about a month later the drive started working again and all was fine. Then, about a month ago, the drive stopped working again, meaning I cannot use this drive at all.
The disc drive is still getting power, and I can open and close the drive without problem, but it is not recognized. Any solutions? I am a graduate student and quite anxious to burn the large amount of material on my computer to a back up CD.

My computer stopped recognizing my dvd/cd drive all of the sudden. It works sometimes when the computer restarts, then it just stops working. I have Windows Vista and my computer is HP Pavilion dv9000. Can any one help me please!!!

- i have the dv9000 hp pavilion and i have the same problem in that it doesnt recognize my cd-drive i tried the solution below and it still doesnt work is there anything else i can do? - GuestBest Solution

Try this and see if it will help you
Here is what you do Click on start and then go to run type in regedt32 For Vista Click start and search for regedt32 and click on it
Go to the following HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Delete the upper and lower Filter or witch is available close window and restart the PC it will work
This is common on the Acer, HP,Toshiba etc,etc
