Sorry, did not mean to say computer, meant to say printer. The head does not move even ever so slightly, when I turn on the printer. It's like its not getting the message to move. It goes through the cleaning process, but does not move at all.

No no not to do any thing related to computer.remove all the connections connected to the printer from computer.just connect the printer to the main power outlet and then ON the printer and then when the head moves just at that time remove the power cord quickly from the outlet in the ON position directly.and then pull that black band it will come out slowly slowly as you pull.do not apply force on that band do it very slowly.

Can't copy at all and printing only shows up color; no black.

Sounds as if the black portion of the printhead may have become dried. I would recommend running1-3 cleaning cycles in an attempt to pull through more ink. If you have any doubts about which colours are coming through do a Nozzle Check from the printer/printer software.

Hi There,

I believe that the printer head which feeds the ink dried out and clogged at the ink dispersal point. I'd suggest you take it to your nearest printer service capable repair center and just have them unblick the clog.

My Canon MP730 printer will not print in black and white...we have put in a new ink cartridge and tried turning the machine on/off. The printer is set to print on black and white. What do we do?

You could clean the black ink cartridge. For this you need to remove the black ink cartridge which is present in the printer. In order to clean the laser or scanner block you could use a cotton swab as it would fully clean the dirt. You need to clean the grime and the dried ink present in the printer. This would remove all the hindrances which prevent the ink from flowing. Cleaning the printer heads would also help to solve the problem.

You have a non functioning printhed, but dont throw it away. Remove the print head, holding the sides of the print head. Run it under warm water for about 3 to 5 minutes until the water dropping out the bottom is clear. Run the water slow, and keep it away from those silvery things. Do attempt to wipe it dry with anything. Remember to put that grey lever down when you put the print head back. Give this a try before pitching it.

The print head is clogged.Try unclogging manually.Open the cover and first remove the ink cartridges. Then open the holder and remove the print head.Run hot tap water and put the print head with the nozzles up to stream water.Hold that 5 min then turn the print head around with the nozzles down.Hold that for every color of 5 min. Then put the print head in hot water with the nozzles down.Left it water about 15 min and then you must very nice to dry. When the print head dry put it in printer and start cleaning. If this not help you need to replace the print head. It's part number now is QY6-0064, because the old QY6-0042 is discontinued.

Press the button on the right hand side of the printer. Lift the lid, pull up the little gray handle. Rock the print head container a bit and you'll see a little metal bar. Grab that and pull straight up.

Canon smartbase mp730

Have you tried doing some maintenance like nozzle check, printing head alignment, clean the nozzles if not then try it by going into control panel - printers and faxes - where you see your mp730 right click and go to properties then click on the last tab which would be maintenance.Try those options if none worked then u might have to replace you print head and that should work
