Question about ASUS A7N8X Motherboard

Mobo temp readings?

I have a Asus a7n8x mobo ( Alienware) that gives very high temps (126 C) on Winbond and LM75 sensors. The owner complains of intermittent locking up. We have installed new cpu cooler, but am curious about these other high temps.

Take a look into the fans check if everything is good, if all the fans works fine then check if your computer has any settings on the BIOS overclocked.

I recently bought a used Asus a7n8x mobo so I can rebuild my dead xp Pro 462 A Socket system. I am upgrading the mobo to the "delux = A7V8X-E" board and replacing my 2400 athlonxp cpu with a used 3200...

You dont need the drivers untill after windows has been installed....However... If windows does not pick your network adapter up, you will need to load these before you can get online.
Download all the drivers for the motherboard and just Burn them onto a cd as a data disc, so you have them ready

Excellent motherboard. I've owned two of them, best socket A motherboard ever. Nvidia nforce chipset, soundstorm audio. You can definitely burn the drivers to a disk or pen drive for installation after you've reinstalled windows. Windows xp may even have drivers that will work for the network card. So you may just be able to go to asus's website with that system and install directly to the system. You will know if the network card is working when xp asks to activate, try to activate and it will tell you if you have a network connection or not. I would burn all the drivers and software to a disk though just in case. Downloading the drivers and saving them on a CD is easy. Just download and save the drivers/software to your "my documents folder" when downloading from asus. Then open my computer double click on the cdrw drive or dvdrw drive whichever one you have and drag the files from your documents to the cdrw//dvdrw window. Once you've done this you will see at the top of the window "files ready to be written to cd". At the top in the left column in window you will see "write files to cd". Insert a blank cd-r or cd-rw and click write files to cd. That's it once its finished you can use the cd to install the software. If you have any trouble or questions reply to this and I will be glad to help you. I miss my A7N8X-E I sold mine to my friend 5 years ago and its still running strong and I used it for 2 years before him.

What is the operating voltage of an 'ASUS nvida geforce4 mmx440 ddr 8x 64mb AGP video card' and wiil it work on a ASUS A7N8X-X MOBO

Your voltage shouldn't matter really. That mobo comes with an 8x AGP slot and those are standardized for a reason. So, to answer your second question, yes that video card should work on that motherboard just fine.

When Heater is turned on display shows 125, doesn't ignite/fire.

I am not sure if you have solved this issue, or not, but here is one idea. When you turn on the heater, it is reading the temp at 125/126 correct? IF this is what the heater is reading, then the problem is the Thermistor,or temp sensor, and is very easy to replace.

If you have an Owner's Manual, there are part numbers and instructions on how to replace the Thermistor. If you do not have one, follow the link below and it will take you to one online:

Cpu fan runs at high speed all the time

the problem is that the mother board you are now using has a 4th wire that sences cpu temp this allow the heat sink fan to change speed to get this to work correctly you will need to replace the fan with a 4 wire style. what is happening is your not getting a temp siginal back to motherboard so the fan controller think it hot and send full power to fan alll the time the stock fan in hp systems is not very good any way .Get a good heat sink and fan to fit your new board ebay has them very cheap 5.00 to 20.00 this will all so increase you system temp and all get the proper cooling when you really need it.

Looking for any helpful ratings and or tweaks, maybe even a post as to would you buy it all over again if you knew what you know after owning it.

Asus products are garbage. I am aware of at least (3) customers who had requested repairs for Asus products, according to the terms of warranty. The customers have complained that after shipping the faulty equipment to Asus repair center, Asus personnel cause physical damage and then refused to repair the original problem. I know of one customer who had recently filed a complaint with Indiana's Attorney General, regarding these activities.

I advise that you stay away from Asus products entirely
