Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

My 2 year old HP laptop and suddenly stopped working. It was up and running when I walked away for a few minutes. I came back and the screen was totally black and now NOTHING happens. The screen remains black at all times. I tried replacing the power cord, but that didn't solve the problem either. Do you have any ideas? I sure could use the help.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly...that is much appreciated! Sorry, I forgot to tell you that I tried that as a possible remedy. I also checked the outlet to make sure it was working. A friend said I may have had a power surge and fried the mother board. That does make sense; however, I also have my cordless phone stand plugged into the same outlet and the phone still works. I would think a power surge would affect the phone as well, but I'm certainly not sure about that at all! Do you happen to have any other sugestions?

Take out the battery and connect only the laptop with a power supply. Check the power supply.

Black blank screen Lenovo 3000 N100

You say the laptop all of a sudden flashed off.

How old is the laptop? You may have suffered one of two things? First of all, if the hard drive will not boot back up, even after using the recovery discs, then that would explain it powering off. I have seen this happen on old desktop hard drives.

Next, try to get the transformer or adapter tested. It may not be putting out enough amperage to run the laptop.

This isn't a software issue. If your laptop is still under warranty have it serviced. If not, see if the costs involved are even worth it. Something within the hardware sounds like it caused a chain reaction and has affected more than just the battery.

Hello, I have a Gateway MT3419 computer that works almost perfectly; the screen is a big problem. Works well, then suddenly goes dark. Can still see images on the screen when tilted towards the light....

Deffinitely worth fixing and be happy it will only cost $200 or less to fix.

Next time make sure you get the extended warrenty, there are 3rd party vendors such as found on amazon that covers this sort of thing.

Uninstall the video card from Device Manager,Re-install but do not use the old drivers which I fear have become corrupted.Download new drivers from the Manufacturer.Make sure there are the correct drivers for your Card no associates the real deal.

How to replace the inverter on a gateway laptop

Fairly easy operation and is standard accross laptops for years.

Get yourself some microdrive screwdrivers
This is all slow and steady..if you get annoyed or frustrated at any stage, walk away for a few minutes and take a breath.
  • Carefully remove the rubber stoppers at the top and bottom of the screen and put aside (you need these to go back in later)
  • Remove the screws and set aside (get a magnet to hold onto them if you can..they have a tendancy to run away)
  • Very gently starting at the middle bottom, lift the bezel up and out slightly. You will hear it pop as it releases.
  • Move around and do one side, then the other side leaving the top intact.
  • When you have the 3 sides free, start along the top. You will have to slide the lid catches out of the way to pop it near those sections and is why it is left until last.
  • After you have the bezel removed, you will be able to see the inverter at the bottom (sometimes on the side)
  • Remove the plugs from both ends being careful not to break any of the connectors, and install the new inverter
Test the laptop before you put it all back together.
Hope that helps =)
