This is an easy printer to fix since there is only one control button. Turn the printer off. Hold the green feed key down while turning the printer on; once the red light begins flashing, let go of the feed button. This will do three things: the printer will calibrate with the installed media, it will print a configuration label and the printer will go into dump mode. Press the feed key again. One more label will come out with with the words "Out of Dump" printed at the top. If the printer still fails to print, remove the ribbon and try the same procedure with direct thermal labels (UPS or FedEx). From there, consult the manual for more troubleshooting tips.
This could be any number of issues. Without more detail, it is impossible to say what the problem could be. One easy way to see if the problem is your printer or you computer / application / driver is to print a configuration label. To do this, turn the printer off. hold down the green feed key, power the printer back on while holding the green feed key. When the light flashed red, let go. At this point, the printer will calibrate and then print a configuration label. If this works as planned, you can eliminate the printer hardware as the problem. From there, try changing the connectivity from USB to serial. Try another computer. just keep changing variables until you get a different result...
Turn off the printer and place your finger on the green feed button. With the button depressed, turn the printer back on. Let the light flash (ONLY!) four times and release the button. Printer will cycle through 2-3 labels. Press the feed button one more time. You've just set the printer back to factory default and dumped whatever setting told it to act as a fax.
Fixed problem. Labels were too thin so LED was still being detected to stop progress of labels. Fixed by sticking some backing paper over the sensor and seems to be working fine.
I had the same problem. I found out later there was a small piece of label sticking against the sensor, thus blocking the sensor from sensing the end of the label. As soon as I removed the label (open the cover, it is on the top part) it immediately started to work as usual. Hope this helps.
Solid red light. This indicates the printer is in an error state and will not
print until the error is cleared. Check to make sure the printer is not out of
labels or out of ribbon if it is a TLP model.
A solid red light will occur if
the printer is out of labels
the printer is out of ribbon ( TLP models only )
the printhead is open, not latched down all the way. Press down on the top cover of the printer to see if the error light clears and goes to green.
the ribbon spool is slipping on the ribbon spool holder on TLP models:

Operationally they are completely different printers. TLP2844 uses ELP (Eltron Programming Language. but TLP2844Z uses ZPL (Zebra Programming Language). You need to calibrate the printer to the labels.
Calibration: If its a TLP2844. Load media. Connect power. Hold down feed key, power on, count one, two, release feed key. The printer will go through a calibtation routine and print config label. IMPORTANT - When it prints this label you must press the feed key and see the message OUT OF DUMP. Your printer will now be calibrated. Check this by hitting the feed key a few times and printer will feed one label each time feed is hit.
Calibration: If its a TLP2844z.
Load media. Turn printer on and wait for green light (Approx 1 minute) Press feed key and keep it pressed until green light blinks once, then twice, now release feed key.
