I hate sounding ignorant, but what would be the correct driver? The Canon is connected to the desktop via USB cable. The cable is plugged into the Canon and the Desktop PC. How do I know if it is properly configured? There was an installaton wizard I used when I right clicked on the printer on the PC to set it to the sharing mode.

I would need more information to help you with this problem. Do you have the correct and up-to-date Canon drivers installed in your laptop? Is the Canon operating as a wireless unit, or is it connected to the computer via USB cable? If wireless, is the Canon setup to operate wirelessly? If on a USB cable, is the USB port properly configured? Is the USB cable plugged in at both ends? The easiest thing to try is to go to:www.usa.canon.com. You can find downloadable drivers, installation instructions, and other documentation, free. The Canon drivers use an INSTALLATION WIZARD program to guide you through the printer set-up process.

First, make sure your Canon operates properly in ALL MODES from your DESKTOP PC. For your VISTA LAPTOP, you may have to experiment a bit to share the Canon on the XP DESKTOP. Check on Canon's website under FAQS to see if a similar situation is documented, and what the solution is. Sometimes, The same driver will work with different operating systems automatically, others require changing some settings in the PROPERTIES menu of the Canon. You can try loading the same XP driver on the LAPTOP, and setup the SHARING MODE. You may have to install the VISTA DRIVERS in BOTH computers, if the XP driver does ot work properly. But first, you must check that both computers can communicate with each other wirelessly. All the information you need is in the NETWORK AND SHARING category on your screen. Just type NETWORK AND SHARING in the SEARCH BOX, and click on the NETWORK AND SHARING ICON to get detailed instructions. This same icon can be found in the CONTROL PANEL window, also. A new window will open, with a display of your present configuration, and on the left side of the screen you will see TASKS, with all the tools you need to share printers.

Can't get epson Stylus nx400 to print from wireless laptops. printer connected to desktop with windows xp pro. both laptops use windows vista home premium.

As your printer is not wireless itself you need to shared the printer. To enable this goto Control Panel on your desktop, select printers, right click your printer and there should be an option for sharing. Enable sharing.
Now using your Vista laptops you should connect to your home network (in your case this is probably a wireless router, as long as your desktop is connected to this router too), goto Control Panel, printers, add printer, search for printer not connected to this copmputer (or network printer).
Hopefully the Vista laptops will then pick it up and install it correctly. You may be asked to install the correct driver for the vista machines. Windows should provide you with instructions on how to do this.
Hope this helps, www.PuterCare.com

Just purchased laptop with windows vista home premium

If your PC has a wireless card, you can setup an AD-HOC network :

If your PC is XP: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/setup/adhoc.mspx

If your PC is Vista: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/windows/en-us/help/293c504f-b944-4d5d-835c-f080129bd5dc1033.mspx

If your PC only has a wired Ethernet connection, you may still connect the two using a Wireless Access Point/Router.

Once you have the two computers connected, you may do whatever networked operations you would like:

File & Printer Sharing is the most common:
