Question about Sony VAIO GRZ610 Notebook

1 Answer

Battery not charging.

I have a problem with what I believe is the connection in the computer that the power cord plugs in to. For a while I could wiggle the cord and if I hold it just right the battery would charge. Not no matter how I hold it it will not charge. Is that internal connection something that I can fix or could it be something else?

This issue can be caused by any of the below possibilities.

  1. Computer AC / DC cable is bad not allowing the computer battery to charge.
  2. Battery is bad.
  3. Battery charger board is bad.

Check if the laptop can work if only install battery, and also install adapter only to find the problem.

Asus UL50VT always shows charging

Either your battery or the power cord has an issue. Does the battery ever fully charge and make the charging light disappear or turn green? If not the battery could be bad.

Try running the computer off the battery by removing the power cord. if the battery starts losing charging strength real quick then your battery is bad. I've see bad batteries that say they are 100% charged but as soon as you remove the power cord it gets down to 5% i a matter of minutes.

Try running the computer on just the power cord. If it stays on and lets you operate without any problem then the power cord is good. A good power cord will not charge a bad battery.

If the laptop does not let you stay on long with the power cord, then either the power cord is bad or the DC Power Jack where the power cord plugs into the laptop is bad. If either of them is bad they will not charge a good battery.

Check your DC Power Jack which is where the power cord plugs into the computer is bad. Take an ink pen and push the tip inside the jack and see if the little pin wiggles, if so the jack is bad. You'll have to take the laptop apart to fix it. Most times it is soldered onto the motherboard, so you will have to desolder the old and solder a new one.

My new battery is not working with my Sony vaio laptop

What do you mean the new batter is not working? Does the computer turn on with the Power Cord? If not, the power cord is bad and cannot charge the battery. I have seen times when new batteries are defective. The new battery does not come charged so you have to plug in the power cord and let it charge overnight.

You have a DC connector problem:

Symptoms of a broken power jack
1. If you wiggle the power cord or the AC Adapter connector on the back of the laptop, the power LED and battery charge LED start to flicker.
2. Battery will not charge in the laptop.
3. Laptop runs fine off a charged battery.
4. With the AC Adapter connected the laptop appears to be dead.
No power LED or battery charge LED activity.
5. Laptop randomly powers off without any warning.

If your laptop is out of warranty, then you can fix the problem by re-soldering DC-IN jack on the system board. If it

hello

shut down computer - unplug power cord from laptop - remove the battery from laptop - plug Ac adapter into computer and Ac outlet (wall)
turn on computer
if computer does not turn on, replace the AC adapter and cord - then place battery back into computer
plug in new Ac adapter and cord - recharge battery - if orange light stays on after 4-6 hours of charging battery, you need new battery as well - replace battery, charge it up and it should be fine

if you have attempted these steps before and no change occurs, then you may have issue with power connection in computer - locate a service centre to replace power connection on computer

The component that you refer to inside the computer is called a 'jack', not a plug. The problem with the connection to the jack is that there is no mechanical connection from it to the circuit board--just the three solder connections and they usually will tear the copper traces going to the jack. A proper fix is to epoxy the jack to the board for mechanical support and use short sections of wire to bypass the broken circuit runs. As far as the intermittent computer actions are concerned, don't change the power plug in or out without shutting the computer down temporarily. Does the overheating occur just when the charger is connected and is it around the battery area? If so, the battery itself may be getting electrically leaky causing the heat. This may mean replacement time for the battery in the future. You might limit the charging time to just enough to keep the battery fully charged. Hope this helps!

Sounds to me like the transformer circuit that enables the batery to charge. If you have bought your machine within the last 12 months it should still be covered by warranty so go back to the supplier. If not covered I wouod still try as it is not beyond reasonable expecations that the machine will operate perfectly in very way for more than 1 year.
