Question about Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-32FS120 32" TV

1 Answer

Sony TV won't turn on

I have a 32" sony that has worked beautifully for 10 years or so. A few weeks ago it would turn itself off. Then you turn it back on and its fine. Then it would turn itself off and when I turn it back on it's in black and white. Then it went back to gorgeous color again. Now it just turned off and won't turn back on. ???? Help?????

Unfortunately it's 10 years old. I can't recommend fixing it because something else may go wrong in a month or two and then you would be looking for a new one. It's too bad though because the problem is most likely not the picture tube or it could even be a loose connection but you'd still need a repair person. THEN AGAIN....

I just found this remark elsewhere on this forum from volts.

Don't beat it with a bat LOL, the problem your having is a simple solution, however this would be best left to a qualified tech to do, the Screen Voltage needs to be tweaked up just a tick, I've worked on alot of these sony's and 9 times out of ten thats what it is.

I have the sony 32' 10 years ago. Today I turned the TV only I learned that top half is totally black the bottom half is fine. Please let me know the problem and can we solve it. Thank you very much!

Hi,
This can be caused by several different things.
Among them are: tube failure, digital comb filter failure, convergence failure, capacitors failure, i.c. faults, power supply providing incorrect voltage.

Unfortunately, being that your tv is so old, there is very little that can be done other than get a new tv.

It is because the repairs will cost as much as a new tv.

I'm sorry your Sony gave out on you, but 10 years is a good long time in the life of tv's nowadays.

I hope you get another that gives you as many years enjoyment, or more!

I may be late with this but it souonds once again ike dust in and on the bulb cage. These TV's will turn off by themselves if they over heat. The extra dust(not much) can/will cause the TV to heat up and shutdown for a few seconds to a minute. Depending on the time of year and location of the TV can vary.

Try removing the bulb and cleaning it with compressed air and a micr fiber towel. Of course don't touch the blub itself as the skin oils will cause it to break.

The green is taking over all the color on the tv

March 14, 2009

I have the same TV which had the same issue ( green in picture ) - back on 10/2007. I called Sony. They had their technician replace the optical box ( factory defect ). There was no charge for the repair even though TV was out of first year of warranty. Call Sony.

One of the front control switches, that are located in the back of the buttons on the front of the set most likly are damaged or broken. These switchs are small and your going to need to pull out the entire chassis of the TV set to replair or replace them. If you have solid state TV repair experience thenm it should not be a big deal, but if you DONT please seek out a local tech to assist you with this repair as sliding out a TV printed circuit board can be a tricky thing, as it can bend ,crack or pop the surface mounted componets right off the board. A repair like this shouldnt cost alot. really all depends on if the board is damaged or not. good Luck
