Acquiring Address Problem

I have a HP Pavilion pc when I hook the network cable to the router it keeps saying Acquiring Network Address but nothing happens. The network card is installed on the motherboard not PCI slot. The drivers have been uninstalled and reinstalled still same message. I did get it to work when I used the ip address asigned to my wireless laptop but when I restarted the computer after upgrading from XP service pack 2 to service pack 3 and got the message again. Any suggestions as to what to do so that system will acquire its own ip address.

You will need to make sure that DHCP is enabled within the routers settings as this will tell the router to assign ip addresses automatically, then go to network connections, right click on your network card>properties>TCP/IP line>properties and tick 'obtain an ip address automatically', click ok, close window and restart pc.

I can not connect to my netgear wgr614v6 with my hp netbook. I can connect with my other laptop and the netbook has been connected before. It keeps saying "acquiring Address"

If you're trying to connect wirelessly, and it says "acquiring address" and never connects, it's most likely because your wireless network has an encryption key enabled, and the encryption key on your laptop/netbook doesn't match. You should disconnect from your home wireless network, and then try to re-connect to it. Verify that you're using the correct wireless key to connect. If that still doesn't work, you should reset your router to factory defaults so that there's no wireless key required to connect - and then try again. If you want to put the wireless key back, you can run the CD or connect to the router using the web interface and configure it again.

Acquiring network address

Sometimes you have to change your computer's settings or the routers settings to know what type of encryption its looking for otherwise it will just stay on acquiring.

Just wait and you will get an ip address. You will not get one if you are not associated and aunthenticated by the router.

My computer won't wirelessly connect to my computer. It keeps saying 'Acquiring network address'.

That means you didn't enter the correct network key when connecting to your wireless network. If your wireless network is not password enabled, you need to change the wireless channel of your router by accessing the router's setup page.
