Out of box, the AT&T 1738 is designed to operate on a single telephone line. I don't know of any device on the market today that could automatically switch it between multiple telephone lines.

Some options include (in no particular order):

1) Purchasing additional 1738s to cover the other telephone lines.

2) Some cordless telephones on the market are designed to handle 2 telephone lines. Their answering machines will cover both lines. AT&T and Panasonic offer such phones.

3) Check out AT&T's line of NoKSU small office telephone sets. The phones will handle up to 4 telephone lines and 1 model features a built in answering machine. In order for the telephones to function 100% all phones would have to be replaced with the models within the AT&T NoKSU family.

4) If this is strictly a business application, consider purchasing a true business telephone system for the office.

I have a esp office 6100 series all in one printer, it is connected to a fully functioning phone line - I have checked everything is working. Each time I try to send a fax I dial the number it dials 3 or...

most likely the fax is incorrectly set up as an extension in a multi-line system rather than a single "telephone". probably the fax injects digits such as a leading zero. the setup needs to be corrected.

I am trying to hook up my digital answering system with a multi line phone. I need step by step what I need to do. Thanks Ivy Hutchison

The answering machine would plug into the telephone jack on the wall, and the telephone would plug into the jack on the rear of the answering machine.
Now you do mention that the telephones are multi-line units. This could complicate things a bit because the 1739 is a single line answering machine.

If the telephone does not have individual jacks for each line (a jack for line 1 and another jack for line 2) you would need to purchase an adapter (maybe 2 of them...depending on the wall jack) that takes a 2 telephone lines and splits them into 2 individual jacks.

For example:

http://www.tti.net/computer-telephony/phone-accessories.html

After the lines have been broken out, you can connect the answering machine to the line that needs it. You would then either plug the lines into their respective jacks on the wall, or use a 2nd splitter to combine the 2 lines back at the wall jack.

My brother mfc-490cw I can't send or recieve faxes.

According to the User's Manual for the Brother MFC-490CW:
  • Poor Line Connection indicates an issue with your telephone line (Page 136). If you are sharing the fax line with any splitters or computers, try connecting the MFC-490CW directly to the phone jack and send a fax. If you are still getting a Poor Line Connection error message, call the telephone company and have a repair technician check your telephone line.

  • Out of Memory error message means the machine's memory is full (Page 138).

Try pressing Stop/Exit and wait until all current operations finish and try again.

Try clearing the data in memory. To gain extra memory space. turn off Memory Receive (See Page 48).

Try printing the faxes that are in memory (See Page 49).

  • System Busy error message wasn't in the manual, but I suspect it means there's a current operation in progress and the machine needs time to finish before moving on to another job. Just wait for the current job to finish, then try again.

I need help connecting a westell 7500 router/modem,i want to get a notebook on line. i didnt receive any intsructions.i need help connecting the westell 7500 to my pc and notebook thanking you.

Westell makes a line of broadband home networking products that enable residential customers and users in small businesses to access and share broadband services. These inexpensive DSL router/modems offer multi-users Internet LAN access for home or business applications. The Westell router/modems allow you to have the benefits of the "always on" high-speed broadband Internet connection without losing the ability to receive voice calls over the same phone line.
  1. Step 1 288254_thumb.jpg Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the computer's Ethernet port. Connect the other end to the Ethernet port on the back of the Westell router.
  2. Step 2 Connect the barrel end of the router's power cord to the connector labeled "12 v" on the back of the router. Plug the other end of the power cord into a wall outlet.
  3. Step 3 Connect one end of the DSL phone cable to the DSL line jack on the back of the router. Connect the other end to the wall jack.
  4. Step 4 Wait for the Ready and the Link LEDs to glow steady green. The router is now ready to use.

Need to connect phone and fax machine to one phone jack

You have the wrong adapter probably. Most common types are single line splitters and will not work like you want. They only split line one and 2 gets blocked out as they only have 2 copper connector on the plug centered to get line 1 only. If you want to use an adapter you will need a 2 line splitter like this one:http://www.trianglecables.com/tellinsplitl.html
A simpler solution is to plug your fax into your phone. On top of your phone are multiple jacks labeled L1/L2, L2 only or L2/data. Plug your phone into the wall using the L1/L2 jack then plug your fax into the L2 jack and this will work fine and still allow you use of line 2 on your phone. If you don't want to hear the ring then set your fax machine to auto answer. Hope this helps you.

Fax display screen always reads, "Auto receive". When attempting to fax, the busy light flashes. Busy light stops flashing for 30 seconds, then starts flashing again.
Above is the default settings for the fax.

NGB0 indicates signal error or line condition error.
U need to check the phone line. U can hook any single line phone to the phone line, check for tones without background noise.

GE 2-9450 CORDED PHONE PROBLEM

I bet the problem is that you used to have two phone lines and now you only have one line. You cannot program an extension into one of these phones unless both Line1 and Line2 coming into the phone are working- it will act as if the extension you picked is in use, but the actual thing it is complaining about is that Line2 isn't working. The phones might have been working for years on a single phone line as long as they didn't lose power. But you don't have to throw the phones away just because you gave up your second phone line, you can still make them work. (I did it for a 12 phone system.) The way to to it: make a special cable that connects your single incoming phone line to both L1 and L2 on the phone, tricking the phone into thinking both L1 and L2 are working. Then program the extensions into the phones, and go back to using a normal cable so that only Line1 is hooked up. To make this cable: take a normal male to male cable and cut off one end. Then connect both the black and the green wires of the cable to the green post in a standard phone jack (the kind you would surface mount on the wall will work best), and connect both the yellow and red wires to the rec post inside the phone jack. Now plug your incoming phone wire into the phone jack, and plug the wire you connected into the jack into the back of your phone. The phone is probably already blinking red on the intercom, just push the extension number you want it to have, making sure there are no conflicting extensions already in use.
I would reconnect the phone using a normal line so that only Line 1 is "hot", don't leave it on this double-connected cable any longer than you need to in order to program the extension.
Good luck!
