Re: Print quality with Fargo DTC500 printer
You might go to the print driver settings to change the way the printer prints the card. This can be found in the printing preferences. Go to the device options tab and choose "rotate front 180 degrees". Then print a card. This may fix the problem.
If not, try downloading the latest print driver from www.fargo.com.

With the Printer powered on:
1. Open the Lid
2. Raise the Print head
3. Remove Ribbon.
The printer's controls will now allow you to move the rollers back and forth. Look into the printer to locate the card and try moving the rollers in one direction, so the card exits the card path.
Card jams usual occur when the card path is dirty and in need of cleaning. Do not attempt to use any house hold cleaners. you need a specific type of alcohol cleaner, otherwise the rollers will dry out and crack. If you do not have a Fargo Cleaning kit, you can check out this link for purchase.
When the ribbon keeps breaking on fargo DTC300 or any similar models (the ones that share similar mechanics) three steps are to be taken.
1- Verify, clean, calibrate or replace the ribbon sensor (maybe you'll see an error like "Panel Searching" that means " the ribbon sensor can't read the ribbon panels normally).
2- Clean the "card path" (the feed and platen rollers) for dust dirt and debris using the manufacturer's cleaning kit (or a clean
lint-free cloth with isopropyl alcohol) and the "clean printer" option.
3- Clean the inside and outside of the printer (pay attention to the printhead) with dust-off, lint-free cloth, isipropyl alcohol and enjoy.

How many prints have been down on the unit? the most common problem could be the rollers need replacing or a problem with the ribbon sensor. We do repairs and also repair under warranty, How old is your printer?
take the ribbon out, and rewind it a little bit and see if you see print on it. if you dont, chances are your printhead is either bad or has loose cables going into it.
if you do see print, either your card is not aligning properly or the head lift motor might not be working (when the unit on, open the door, and press both buttons at the same time and see if the printhead does an up and down motion), platen roller is bad
We would recommend to try to update the firmware for this printer from the Fargo website - www.fargo.com. Update the print driver to the most current version from this site as well. Run a test card from the LCD panel if the printer starts after your updates. If successful, run a test card from the print driver on the computer.
