Question about Video Game Consoles & Games
That is a Video Output error. Check your HD AV cable connections. Unplug and replug them back in. You can also try to replace your video cord. If that does not work then there is a internal error with the video output device.

ok wat u do is bring it back to where u got it its still under warranty, it wont cost u a thing, if its second hand take off the shell where hte disc tray is and see if the silver warranty sticker is intact and in the right place if its not bring it back to the shop and complain thats its not, and as a last solution htere is a way to fix it at home u wrap the xbox up in blankets and takeout hard drive turn it on wit inly the av cable in, wait til the light comes on then take out av cable, tehn leave it wrapped up tight-ish until it turns off or makes a loud kinda clikcin noise then leave for a minute to cool down and turn on should work but is only a temporary solution

SOURCE: Console has lower right hand
E74 mean your Graphics Processor is no longer properly contact with the heat sync.
Remove the case and cover and disk drive. Then remove the cooler fan and shroud. Once clear, remove the motherboard and unscrew the heat sinks from the bottom. Once apart, use 70% isopropol alcohol and a q-tip to clean the contacting surfaces as well as possible. You will now need to drill hole inline with the ones on the motherboard to drop in a bolt capped with a cardboard insulator ring and finaly a lock nut. You may need spacers of 1/16 - 1/8 thickness under your screw mounts to compensate for a "warp" caused by the motherboard getting too hot and the metal clips simply wont do. Then apply dime sized bead of thermal paste to the processor and remount the heat sync. drop bolts and place fasteners.
(NOW THE SYSTEM MAY NEED TO "BAKE"!!!) This is a process not necessary for some units. But do it anyways to be safe.
TO "BAKE" the system: 1. With fan and shroud off and cover off, plug in the system and turn it on. 2. Place heavy towel over the system until it shows 4 circulating red rings. WHen it overheats it will shut down. 3. Now let it cool and remove the towel and unplug 4. Once cooled, replace components and test your system

Tips for a great answer:
E74 is due to an inherent
engineering flaw and will continue on new consoles until Microsoft institutes a
E 74, E 79, E 71 is shown
on screen and a solution to fix it is by ensuring that your A/V connections on
your Xbox 360 is secured. Another possible cause to the error is that there is
a power surge or outage on your system.
