Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

Horizontal Lines Moving Up Screen

Just bought a new 80g (9/08) and when I have it on, no matter if I'm playing a game or viewing the system screen, I get three lines that go across the screen and scroll from the bottom of the screen to the top. My TV isn't HD or anything, but is a Sony Trinitron flat screen from 2004 and I'm hooked up via RC cables. I tried adjusting the screen resolution through the menu and everything seems set up correctly.

I'm having the same problem... There is a huge horizontal line drifting upwards on my ps3. I can't play games or even watch movies anymore because the picture is so hard to see at times... Mine is only a 40 G and I've only had it for about 6 months... any suggestions???

    Thanks, Mark!

I called Radio Shack and they did not have an EMI Filter. I described the problem and your solution. Since they didn't have what I needed to test everything, they suggested I try a Ground Lift (3-prong to 2-prong adaptor) and that did the trick. It was $1.29 for a two-pack at Target if anyone else is interested.

Hi Folks,
What you are describing sounds like grounding or EMI issues with your AC power. If the lines or bars are soft and moving up the screen, typically there is an issue with the ground at the AC plug, or dirty AC from another device in the house (usually the refrigerator). Make sure the TV and PS 3 are on the same circuit (two wall outlets in the same room are usually NOT the same circuit). Check the outlets wiring to insure it's correct. You can do this with a Snap-It circuit tester (about $6.00). Many older buildings might not have the ground wiring properly installed or a previous owner/tenant wired something "wrong". You can get an EMI (electro-mechanical interference) filter at places like Radio Shack. You can put them on the PS 3 and the TV, but I would try one on the fridge first-make sure it can handle the refridgerator's power requirements.

GoodLuck,

Screen has gone grey and has fine horizontal lines on entire screen. Blue screen is out.

Either the screen voltage to picture tube is more than normal, or the video processor IC has damaged. There is an other possibility that there is no voltage at the video output card, plugged on to the neck of the picture tube. Anyway, your set need a through checkup, and the work is somewhat skilled one. Just check this site. Soemtimes you might get some details about this fault. The fault is called vertical retrace lines. Thin horizontal lines all across the screen with an inch apart. One among the posts published in the following site have details about this fault.
Visit the site named 'Electro-help' for more details. Click this link. View it in "Timeslide" or "Flipcard" option, which can be selected from the drop down box menu by the [Sidebar] tag, at the top left corner of the display window. It will make search easy. Insert game disk and horizontal lines move fast on screen ???????

Sounds like your TV has multiple video inputs. Make sure the TV is set to the right channel or input. I know on ours if I hit the TV-input button on the tv remote I can change from inputs like s-video, video, cable etc and the Wii only displays properly on one of them.

Screen has has horizontal white lines and a loud buzz with ps3.

it could be that your rca cables are damaged, you can try using different ones, or it could be that you have a setting to use rca cables turned off in your settings of the ps3.

Horizontal lines are appearing and moving acrosss the screen of my View Sonic E50C Monitor...

What is wrong with your monitor is that the Horizontal section is going faulty, the lines you are seeing are the Horizontal Retrace lines, usually invisable in a working unit. It is often a faulty capacitor(s) OR a Diode breaking down.. in the area of the Flyback Transformer. Probably time for a new one unless ya can fix it yaself.
