Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console
Just bought a new 80g (9/08) and when I have it on, no matter if I'm playing a game or viewing the system screen, I get three lines that go across the screen and scroll from the bottom of the screen to the top. My TV isn't HD or anything, but is a Sony Trinitron flat screen from 2004 and I'm hooked up via RC cables. I tried adjusting the screen resolution through the menu and everything seems set up correctly.
What you are describing sounds like grounding or EMI issues with your AC power. If the lines or bars are soft and moving up the screen, typically there is an issue with the ground at the AC plug, or dirty AC from another device in the house (usually the refrigerator). Make sure the TV and PS 3 are on the same circuit (two wall outlets in the same room are usually NOT the same circuit). Check the outlets wiring to insure it's correct. You can do this with a Snap-It circuit tester (about $6.00). Many older buildings might not have the ground wiring properly installed or a previous owner/tenant wired something "wrong". You can get an EMI (electro-mechanical interference) filter at places like Radio Shack. You can put them on the PS 3 and the TV, but I would try one on the fridge first-make sure it can handle the refridgerator's power requirements.
