Sparks could indicate the motor is failing or the drive.

Sounds to me as though the main drum bearings have gone and the drum is catching the internal parts.
I f the drum is turned by hand and it feels rough or is noisy, then it is the main bearings.

My kenmore 417 wahser making too much noise, it looks like the inner tub hitting the outer plastic housing. How can I fix it?

Have you tried moving the clothes around in the drum to balance the drum BEFORE you was them? If that works, you have solved the problem! Most people forget that when cloth gets wet it gets heavy so leaving the clothes unevenly placed in the drum dry will make a real problem when they get wet!

Hotpoint wf240 - jumps around when spinning laundry - the problem seems to be the drum turns too fast before the spin so the laundry is balled up before the spin - has anyone any ideas on how to fix...

Ensure that your machine is on a level surface with equal weight on the four legs. There are adjustable feet on these machines so as to balance the load on each support. These supports are adjustable by twisting them clockwise/anti-clockwise to get the correct balance.

Washing machine makes a loud banging noise during cycle and when I check it the machine has changed position (unit is turned slightly sideways) How to correct

Hi
Does this happen every time???
If YES... then the machine is not balanced on the floor well.... the 4 stands on which the machine rests have adjustable screws... You will need to fasten or loosen the nuts that will adjust the height of the legs on which the machine rests.... all the 4 legs need to be firmly on the floor .... If one is too high then the machine rocks on its side...

If NO.. only sometimes...
You are overloading the machine with heavy clothes... distribute your wash clothes by weight...

Berry

Loud banging noise when machine goes into spin mode. sounds like it is banging on the side. Please help !

Usually this is an out-of-balance condition caused by too much weight on one side of the tub, move the clothes around and try again.

Banging noise

You may have had a foreign object slip under a loose drum baffle. Manually rotate the drum to locate wwhich baffle it is in.

Spin cycle noise problems

It is likely that you have an unbalanced load. Try spinning the machine with only water in it. If there are no noises now, you will need to re-distribute the load. We clothes are heavy!!
