1
Insert the problematic 4GB Memory Stick Pro Duo into your PSP and turn the system on.
2
Select "Settings" from the cross
media bar and scroll down to "System Settings." Press "X" to access the
sub menu and select "Format Memory Stick."
3
Press "X" to confirm the
formatting of the stick. Your PSP will delete any content on the stick
and reformat to match how the PSP stores data and organizes files.
The memory stick is probably dead. The most common cause for this is ESD (Electro Static Discharge) to test, use a USB card reader to look at it on your computer. if the computer sees it, try formatting the card.
hmm it may be courrpeted... do u format it useing ur psp..? u now how to format it rite.. go to setting then mem card and format .. it should format fine... if not it may be damaged
I would suggest formating the memory card through the options on your camera. If you reformat the memory card and you still get the same error then you have a bad card. Just like anything else the cards will break down internally over time.
Try re-formatting your memory stick from your PSP console. A memory stick that is formatted from a PC or other hand held console sometimes cause incompatibility problem with the PSP.
If your PSP still can not read the memory stick, try checking your memory stick by using your friends PSP and see if they can access the memory stick.
If the memory stick can be accessed by your friends PSP then there is a problem with the memory slot of your PSP.
The only way to check the contacts of the memory slot of your PSP is to disassemble you PSP and take out the mother board.
Push the little HOME button on the bottom left of the face of the unit.
Use the arrow keys to move to the SETTINGS area, then move the up and down keys until you get to System Settings.
Once you are there, click on the "X" button and scroll up and down as needed to find Format Memory Stick. Click on "X" again to select that option.
The Sony PSP will now confirm that you want to reformat the memory stick (which removes every file and game save thereon, of course): choose yes and it'll format in just a few seconds.
It that doesn't work - try formatting it with your computer.
Two possibilities. 1. The firmware on your PSP is too old to recognise the 8GB (only recognises up to 4GB). 2. If firmware is up to date you have a fake memory stick (easy way to check is to check the info for the memory stick on your PSP if its says that MAGIC GATE is unknown rather than supported then it is fake.
The fake ones typically double compress the data so that it appears to have 8GB when in reality it does not.
