Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

I have had a virus problem with my laptop and have formatted and reloaded the Windows XP operating system. All is ok apart from the image size on the screen. It is about half the size it should be and I cant find out why. I have tried connecting my laptop to my home PC and the picture is the same. 1/2 the size it should be. This proves that it is smothing to do with the programme but what?

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately I am still in the dark. I have tried the first option and have a string of 6 yellow ?s under "other devices". The headings are ethernet controller, multi media audio controller, PCI modem, SM bus controller USB and video controller. The service tag on my laptop is 448GS0J but there is another number on the device manager which is G4W181W9. I dont know what this number is for. It appears that the driver is missing but I have tried runnning the driver and utilities disc that I got with the laptop but it hasnt helped. There are drivers on it but I cant get them to load although the disc player is working OK as it will show me the contents of the disc. I tried the other option but the slide will not move to increase the resolution. Hope you can help.

Sorry, thought I had mentioned it in my first contact. It is a Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop. The service number is as I listed in the previous note. I have attempted to get into the right section of the Dell site but cant find what I want.

    Regards

Rather your graphics driver or resolution for your screen, few things to check -
right click on my computer, properties, hardware then device manager. are there any yellow question marks there? if so whats your laptop model number so i can find drivers for you.
also try right clicking on your desktop and go to properties then settings and see if you can change the resolution there.

let me know

My HP d530 is infested with viruses and will not start up in safe mode. So I am trying to Perform a System recovery, but I have no disk.

If you do not have a recovery disk ..the fastest way and safer and much reliable is to reinstall it clean from a Boot-able disk with the operation system ...
After installing the clean operation system ..all you need is to get the drivers for the devices..(sound; video ;Lan card;//etc) from the HP support site ..and reinstall them for to be working proper..
During the installation you will have to format the Cpartition in order to get rid of all the viruses for sure ..
Here you will find an image file with a boot-able windows XP..that you will have to download using Utorrent or any torrent client software ..and after that burn it on a blank CD using NERO burner software ..
The actual burning is made just by double clicking the file with a blank cd inside..and the Nero program being installed on the computer ..
Here are the links in order for ..windows...utorrent ..and Nero ..
http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/5388204/Windows_Xp_Genuine
http://www.utorrent.com/
http://www.mediafire.com/file/yznzmdonjgm/Nero%207.rar
just install utorrent first ..than download Nero and install it ..(be sure you insert the product key in the folder) ..and than download the windows xp image file from that link ..
when all that are done and nero installed..insert a blank disk ..and double click on the image file ..it will bur a boot-able windows xp ..
with this cd you will be able to boot from cd and reinstall the operation system ..
after that here you will find the drivers you need for your computer ..

Getting the blue screen on the computer. It says problem detected windows shutdown.

1. You may have a virus and it has corrupted the Boot sector of the OS (Operating system) Windows that is
2. this may be that you will have to format the hard drive and reload Windows
3. the third thing may be that your hard drive is failing and needs replacement.

How do I wipe my hard drive? It has been hit by a virus and most of the programs no longer work. I need to clean the hard drive and reload it. Do I need to format it first?

Hello,

You can perform a clean install. When you are asked if you want to reformat , say YES. That way all will be erased, and the virus also.

Hoe it helps

Wmf graphics filter missing! what is a wmf graphic filter?

pc or laptop what ever you are using.in the operating system there is a file called -------- wmfimp32.fit file-------- this is missing.this hapopens due to viruses in the machine.some files get deleted.so its necessary to format your pc and reload the operating syste.as if you are not familiar with formatting and dont have software cd of your operating system then its very much advisable that you get it done by local computer hardware repair person.because if the virus gets in the some more files it will totally make your hard disk corrupt and all the data in the hard disk will get vanished.so its recomended to do this formatting as early as quickly as possible. thanks. keep updated.

Need to reload windows xp on Emachines PC

Yes all you have to do is.........

Turn off the Computer
Turn back on and Press F11 repeatedly when the message "Press F11 to start recovery" is displayed.
The recovery will load and display a menu of options:

Full System Restore (with Backup): This options will move all Hard Disk contents to the "c:\My Backup" directory and install a new copy of Windows. This option preserves your existing data files, however all applications and settings will need to be reinstalled. This option requires 4GB of free Hard Disk space for the new OS.

Alway suggest backing up your data before you do any recovery

HP NC6000 GO ON AND GO OFF

Could be a fan, either processor or graphic processor heating up. Then again it could be the motherboard. Try exchanging memory. If it still does it, make sure the fans are spinning. If it continues, i'm pretty sure you have a motherboard issue.

How do i re install windows xp? please

  1. If you have a Windows XP CD place it in the CD drive.
  2. Restart your computer.
  3. When it says "Boot from CD..." press Enter.
  4. Wait for the CD to load, then follow the on-screen instructions.
  5. When a list of partitions is displayed, choose the largest one and press D (NOTE: This WILL delete EVERYTHING on your hard drive).
  6. Follow the instructions to delete.
  7. Press "F" to format the clean hard drive. (May also be "L" depending on your revision of Windows XP). A quick format will be sufficient unless you have spyware, malware, and/or viruses.
  8. Select "NTFS file system and delete old files".
  9. Wait about an hour for the drive to format (times may vary depending on the size of the drive and if you chose quick format or not).
  10. When the drive finishes formatting, follow the on-screen instructions to install Windows (it displays the keyboard keys and actions on the bottom of the screen).
  11. When it finishes installing, it will start up normally with a clean hard drive.
  12. Note that my instructions are vague and could be different depending on the type of computer that you have.
  13. Additional Note: You are able to do a re-install of Windows Operating System without formatting the hard drive. If this is the case, a backup won't be necessary unless you absolutely see fit to do so.
