Disconnect the battery and just keep the ac power connected. hold down the FN button and hit the power button. if some lights falsh and the computer shutsdown in 4 - 5 seconds its a bad motherboard. If you get other light lemme know. Call dell tech support and get a dispatch made if system shutsdown right after the lights flash. You can also try the chat support at www.dell.com/chatsupport

keep a phillips screw driver handy when you call as they might as you to disconnect the hard drive, CD drive and other cards like thememory card and wireless card to check if they are not causing the issue.

take your laptop apart, you can find step by step instructions on Dell web sight, and look at motherboard under the proccessor cooling unit and see if there is a burnt component at the edge of the board. Found this on mine, maybe condensation from cooling unit causing this. Design flaw by DELL.

My dell studio1555 laptop is not recognising my mains lead/charger

Plug the adapter into the wall outlet or power strip. If using a power strip, make sure the strip is on. Most laptop power adapters have a small LED light; the light will illuminate when power is being transferred from the outlet to the adapter. If the light illuminates, chances are you have sufficient power to supply your laptop. Wiggle the power cord if the LED light did not initially illuminate. If the light turns on and off when you wiggle it, you might have a loose cord in the adapter, or the outlet could be faulty. Plug the adapter into another power outlet, preferably a different circuit in another room, if the LED light did not illuminate the first time. If it lights up from the second outlet, the first outlet either does not work or other devices were using too much power on the initial circuit. Connect the other end of the adapter to the laptop and turn the laptop on. When the computer starts up, you should see an indication of how the laptop is being powered in the lower right-hand corner. If you see a battery icon, then the laptop is being powered by the battery, not the adapter. Make sure both ends of the adapter are securely connected. If they are, and if the LED light on the adapter is lit, then you likely have a faulty wire that is not properly connecting to your computer. If you see a plug or adapter icon, then the laptop is successfully being powered by the adapter. If the LED light on the adapter is not lit, then the bulb is out, but the adapter is still working.

This could indicate a bad battery. Try removing the battery and powering on the laptop. If the power LED remains white then you have a problem with the charging circuit. That means your battery could be defective or the battery charging circuit on your motherboard is faulty.

You have a DC connector problem:

Symptoms of a broken power jack
1. If you wiggle the power cord or the AC Adapter connector on the back of the laptop, the power LED and battery charge LED start to flicker.
2. Battery will not charge in the laptop.
3. Laptop runs fine off a charged battery.
4. With the AC Adapter connected the laptop appears to be dead.
No power LED or battery charge LED activity.
5. Laptop randomly powers off without any warning.

If your laptop is out of warranty, then you can fix the problem by re-soldering DC-IN jack on the system board. If it

hello

shut down computer - unplug power cord from laptop - remove the battery from laptop - plug Ac adapter into computer and Ac outlet (wall)
turn on computer
if computer does not turn on, replace the AC adapter and cord - then place battery back into computer
plug in new Ac adapter and cord - recharge battery - if orange light stays on after 4-6 hours of charging battery, you need new battery as well - replace battery, charge it up and it should be fine

if you have attempted these steps before and no change occurs, then you may have issue with power connection in computer - locate a service centre to replace power connection on computer

Won't turn on. Battery is plugged in and lit. n

Try removing your battery pack. Then connect the power adaptor (even without the battery) and connect is directly to the power outlet. If it powers up, then the battery pack might be defective or totally drained.

If the battery is just totally drained, simply place the battery to the laptop. Do not turn the laptop on. Plug the power adaptor to the laptop and plug it to the power source. If you see that the charging LED is blinking in your laptop, then just leave it charging up to 5 to 8 hours.

Never use a laptop on battery mode while it is plugged in to a power source. This is the number 1 reason why laptop batteries don't last longer.

Try to perfrom power drain. You must first turn off the computer. Take out the battery and unplug the power adapter. Press and hold the power button for 30 secs. Put the batter back in, plug in the power adapter and power ip the computer then observe.

Let me know if same issue will happen.

I have a new e627 used only once before today. Battery connection was partially out and screen indicated low battery. After five minutes screen went black and now I cannot power up.

Maybe your battery is totally drained.

Try to connect the AC adaptor of your laptop and plug it to the wall outlet and let it charge for 3 hours or more. When you plug it on the wall socket, it won't show the laptop's led blinking since it was totally drained. But after 3 minutes or more, it will start to show the blinking led to indicate charging. When blinking stops led light disappears, it is fully charged and ready to use.

Remember: Do not use your laptop while it is plugged in to save your battery life. When at home, remove the battery while it is fully charged and plug the AC adaptor directly to the wall outlet. It will still work without the battery as long as it is plugged directly to the wall socket.

I am trying to figure out what the buttons on the underneath of my laptop are for, they show a battery sign and mine only stays charged for an hour?

That battery LED shows up when you are connected to AC power. When the battery is charging, the light is up. However, when it is fully charged, it will change color or disappear or does not light. But I am begging you to not use your laptop always with the AC power so as not to destroy your battery. When you are at home, plug your laptop to charge but dont open it. When it is fully charged, remove the battery and turn it on while the battery is out. It is the safest way to conserve and lengthen the life of your battery. Use only your battery when you are in places where there is no power outlet or when you are on the go.
Regards!
